Personal Projects / Re: Princess Crown (Saturn) English Translation

CyberWarriorX, I've been having a bad week. A REAL bad week. And you just made it so much better. The fact that we could be getting a 2019 release of this translation makes my heart sing. I've been following this project how long HAVE I been following it? Years? I feel like it has to have been years at this point. And your dedication to it has been inspiring. I'm so excited for the final release. I'm not in any way interested in rushing you. I'm glad you're taking your time. But I'm so glad to have something to look forward to this year. :D

I agree with an adjusted encounter rate. It always made what is otherwise an amazing game kind of a chore to get through. Off the cuff I'd say something like 1/2 encounter rate, 2x money, 2.5x exp gains.

As an aside, congrats on being literally the only person on Twitter I look forward to seeing post. :D

Would you say the DS version is superior? Or is it more of a completely different game?

It's tough to say. The DS version is entirely different from the GB version. The mechanics were updated to be more faithful to the SaGa series, whereas FFL3 does its own thing in a lot of ways. It was actually directed by the guy who did Mystic Quest, but like, it's actually GOOD. I'd say give the Gameboy version a shot. It does a lot to let you decide how to tackle the game and how to customize your party. The DS version does as well, but because it's more akin to a traditional SaGa game all the mechanics are a lot more obtuse and you have a lot less control over your own party's growth.

This is so cool! I really hope you can get this going, I'm excited to see how it goes! You should add your initial discovery to TCRF, the game having partial 2 player functionality is a huge find. :D

Final Fantasy Legend 3. It's definitely the black sheep of the series, having a more traditional leveling, equipment, and magic system, but it did a lot of genuinely ingenious stuff that you just don't see in games. Your characters start as 2 humans, and 2 mutants, but any of them can change into beastmen, monsters, cyborgs, or robots, and there's like, 30-40 of EACH of those. It makes for some really awesome party customization. The story is completely butchered by the English translation, but the story itself is really good. Imagine a proto-Chrono Trigger. You're traveling to different time periods to change the future, and it handles it really well. You can even customize your ship with different parts and the ship takes place in some battles, offering artillery support. The end drags out a little bit, but it's a really fun RPG all in all.

Another underrated game I really like is a game on Steam called Khimera: Destroy all Monster Girls. Despite the name it's not ecchi trash. It's a 2D platformer with Mega Man elements, and some of the best writing I've seen in years. The fact that it's free is honestly mindblowing because it's a really well made game, with a lot of content, and a lot of fun. Definitely worth checking out.

Finally, Jaws on the NES. It's not the best game ever, but it's just good fun. Imagine like, if any 80's arcade game had adventure and RPG elements. You collect seashells to level up, find items, and eventually power up enough to kill the titular Jaws. It's got points, and lives, and the gameplay is very arcade-y, but it's a solid game all in all.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Phantasy Star II - Which hack should I try?
« on: January 08, 2019, 02:20:02 am »
Thanks for all the suggestions and input! And in perhaps the most disappointing answer ever, I ended up trying out the game, and I'm finding myself pretty put off by the battle screen. To put it mildly it looks like butts. The flashing red really started to wear on me, and trying to navigate the battle menu was terrible. Possibly the worst interface of any RPG I've ever played. But I really do appreciate the input and the suggestions!

That font is so pretty! Good job on the translation! I hope it brings a lot of people joy. :D

Gaming Discussion / Phantasy Star II - Which hack should I try?
« on: December 28, 2018, 04:02:52 am »
I'm currently going through the Phantasy Star series, and loving every minute of it. I'm going to be starting PS2 soon, but I know the game has a reputation for being...not great. Very grindey, and having some frustrating dungeon design. So I thought I'd see if any hacks mitigated that, but to my surprise there was an abundance. So my question is, which one should I go for? Has anyone tried different ones out? What were your experiences?

Man, I get a 4 day weekend AND there's an update to this project? What a good day!

As a side note, how are you planning on handling new voices for the characters? If you need voice work, I've always wanted to lend my talent to something like this.

Oh this is pretty rad! How does the player get multiple Eevee's in this one if I may ask?

No, it's not dead. He's working hard on it, but life came at him pretty hard and he hasn't had much time to work on it/update us on the progress. It'll be done when he can get it done. :)

I am *SO* excited about the addition of a new character. I am 100% here for this. You can definitely expect me to record this when it's all said and done. :D

Personal Projects / Re: Dragon Warrior 1 Spanish Translation
« on: May 13, 2018, 05:09:11 am »
Oh this is awesome! I didn't realize this game didn't already have a Spanish translation. I'll never get tired of seeing games from my childhood translated into other languages for new people to experience. You're doing awesome! So quick question, are you keeping all of the 'ye olde' speech in? Is there a Spanish equivalent for that? I would assume so, but I don't speak Spanish so that's just a guess. Either way, keep up the great work! :D

Dude, you're incredible. I wish I had the words to express just how inspiring and amazing this project and the work you do is.

Hmm. That's actually how I drew the block. Follow the black pixels in the screenshot. If it's too ambiguous, maybe I can redraw them?

No, I hadn't even thought of the coins. That's a solid idea! Adding that one to the list. I'll probably work on it a bit more tomorrow. I have to do it in short bursts because of my schedule.

MEOWZER!? I love it!!! I don't have any ideas for him yet. I haven't taken a solid look at his sprite. It'll probably be one of the last ones I do. I need to finish up all of Mario's sprites, then I want to do the baddies, and I'll end up doing Bowzer last, before moving on to miscellaneous stuff like changing the name, the title screen, etc. Still, Meowzer? I love that so much. That's a GOOD pun. :D

Hey, so sorry for the silence. Life sort of happened hard and fast and I haven't had any time to work on this. I've got a couple of new screenshots though! I made the question blocks kitty faces, and turned the fire flower into catnip. I want to touch up the graphics for that though. I also COMPLETELY mangled the spinies and plan on redoing them, ha ha.

And no, I don't plan on changing the level layout at all. This one's strictly graphics. Though I think for whatever I do after this one, I want to start getting into fun stuff like text editing, gameplay changing, etc.

I really appreciate all the positive feedback! This has been a lot of fun for me so far. I've never really done anything creative, or anything that I'm proud to show off to other people. It's been a major self esteem boost so far. :D
