News Submissions / Re: ROM Hacks: MOTHER 2 DELUXE RELEASED

Bump. Wanted to ask what the current status on this hack was. Like I know it's released, but have the suggestions listed by others on here been implemented yet and the download updated?

I had a version that I released on Starmen.net a while back, and I wanted to work on implementing the final dungeon and some other things but life gets in the way. The latest version is in the PKHack forum on the M2DX topic. I am in the middle of implementing a new set of ASM hacks that allow to to custom program enemy attacks to not be limited by the 4 attack limit, and can now even have a bit of low level AI to some enemies. The final dungeon is still something I want to do. When this game is TRULY DONE, I will post a final version here.

Your balance ideas are noted. If I find it necessary as I tweak/add things I will make some changes to balance.

The full changelog doesn't exist, it would have been far too tedious to list all changes to the game because there are HUNDREDS of them. However I linked the starmen.net site where I first posted this, and I have a spoiler with all the ASM changes (for the most part).

Like with the Mother 1 hack released a while ago, I was interested in playing this just for the promise of new sprites. ...But it looks like they're just hi-res filtered versions of the old sprites.

There are few new BATTLE SPRITES for this hack, but many of them are redrawn to be much larger (bosses and dinosaurs) and almost all are re-paletted I do have two completely new sprites for the bosses Blergh and Statue Boss (Formerly Mini-Barf and Guardian General). But as for enemy sprites outside of battle there are tons of new sprites made for many enemies who had no unique sprites, like Spinning Robo's and Robo-Gallon, etc.

@Eggplantus: Yes Ness is naked, the game is completely uncensored from the Japanese version.

The hack does not change the story line. In the beginning of the game one story item of note is mandatory to see which was formerly optional. Also in the future there might be a final dungeon post-game that links Mother 2 to Mother 3.

There are actually a bajillion changes to the game from the original, far more than I have listed in the original place I released the hack: https://forum.starmen.net/forum/Community/PKHack/Earthbound-Deluxe/page/1/.

As for the items the vast majority do the same thing and are found in the same place, but some of Jeff's items got buffed/rebelanced, and the main item change is with the equippables. Before, you could get a stupidly high amount of Luck rather quickly in the game and negate most enemy status attacks. Now all resistances to certain elements or PSI come ONLY through the "Body" type equip such as the pendants or charms. "Arm" equippables only give straight defense. Lastly the "Other" category used to be a few hat-type items and then became all coins which gave a stupidly high amount of defense AND Luck. Now you have to CHOSE whether you want JUST Luck for the status attack resistance, or the hat type items for straight defense. Things are a bit more customizable. Also a few key powerful items are in different places, such as the Gaia Beam now being purchaseable in Scarabi, and the Heavy Bazooka being dropped by the Creepy Spheres. The standard Bazooka is available in the Fourside Sewers which is earlier than at the end of the Scarabi desert after the Pyramid. Check out the Starman.net site for more detailed info.
