The Japanese version has the original opening, though it's butchered like the rest of the game

Another thing, not a specific problem of this game, but still... Color restoration

They're both practically the same, the only noticeable difference is the translation, while the SNES is more localized, the DS is more faithful to the original japanese. In the end it's just a matter of preference and familiarity.

Personally I don't care either way tbh. Tho I still prefer Woolsey's Frog  ;D

I still have my SNES cart but when I replay it I prefer the DS version, I just don't care for the extra stuff (arena, dungeons, etc) but it has quite a few QoL improvements with basically no downsides.
And what's the deal about it being portable? You don't have to play it on an actual DS.

Hey I've been following you since you first posted this, I usually don't comment much (anywhere) but I like your style and basically the whole thing you do, since I don't know any other channels that review hacks and translations. So yeah, perhaps you don't get many views, but your work is really appreciated nonetheless. Anyway, I'll try to spread the word haha. Cheers!

Gaming Discussion / Re: What techs would a playable Schala have?

I'm on the opposite side, I think she'd be a Shadow magic user. Hence Janus becomes Magus, like trying to imitate her or follow in her legacy or something. If I remember correctly, Queen Zeal also deals Shadow damage. Also, the seal she's made to cast on the portal looks an awful lot like Dark Matter (the triangle/pyramid thing).

That said, it would only make sense if she replaced Magus instead of adding her as an 8th character. But still, she's supposed to be more powerful than him. So instead of Light 2/Fire 2/Ice 2, maybe she uses Luminaire/Antipode/something else. And a Revive for good measure.

I think the biggest question would be what weapon she equips.
Gloves. No animations needed, just a palette swap on the hands.

Let the legend come back to life!

I'll keep an eye out for this, I was pretty bummed about Faithful too.

Would it be compatible with other hacks, such as PAL and Text Speed, or maybe implement those features?

Aún recuerdo la traducción de Chrono Trigger que hiciste hace años, gracias a ella pude lograr que mi hermana lo jugase jeje. Qué bueno ver que todavía sigues vivo, y más vivo que nunca! :)

Or do the before/after in one image, that could work too.

I saw your stream the other day and I was thinking about ways to improve the music, since it's really high pitched and annoying. I assume that's because it was made to be heard through the GB speakers, so is it possible to pitch it an octave down? That way the music is basically the same, it actually sounds very similar to Link's Awakening, and it doesn't destroy your ears xD

What if you (player) change his name though?

This is FF4's soundtrack playing back with the original synthesizers' samples, released for free by the guy who also made the Chrono Resurrection music.

I just thought this would be perfect for a MSU1 hack.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Chrono Trigger gets a Steam release.

Well, in the Chrono universe there exists a separate dimension that's like a dump for "discarded" timelines (at least that's the explanation they gave after Cross)
Actually, part of Cross's plot revolves around facing the consequences of the Trigger team playing around with time too much.

That was amazing! But now I want this for Killer Instinct too xD

I really don't see the problem with gaming being digital only. Games are software. Most software nowadays is being sold digitally, and people doesn't have a problem with that. The only benefit I can think of for games is storage capacity, but I don't think that'd be an issue forever.

I understand that some people prefer having physical games, but it also costs publishers more money. Which is one of the reasons why I think we now have predatory practices like subscriptions, microtransactions and BS DLC; that needs to go away too. But as long as people keep paying for it, it's hardly going to happen...

Maybe a wiki or something like that would be better suited for this sort of thing, so everyone can contribute. But it'd be difficult nonetheless, you'd still need a lot of people committed to it, even if you only consider the more "mainstream" hacks like Parallel Worlds or Rogue Dawn.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: PS1 Resolution Hacks
« on: December 01, 2017, 12:25:35 pm »
This is what he's talking about, some menus use a really weird native resolution that is afterwards stretched to fullscreen. I assume what he means is making it always stretch.
