ROM Hacking Discussion / Changing text speed

I'd like to change the text speed of Panorama Cotton and I'm a little lost.  I got a trace between characters being printed and I see places where the same code is repeated multiple times.  But, I'm not sure if that's timing code and if it is I don't understand how the code exits.  Does anyone have any knowledge or docs about how these games timed things like text print speed and how I might go about finding and changing it?

Personal Projects / Panorama Cotton In English

After 10 years of working on and off translating Panorama Cotton, I finally have the game in a state where I feel comfortable releasing it!

Before, I do a full release, I'd like to have some people to beta test this thing to make sure everything is solid.  I've been working on this basically on my own and it would be good to have some honest feedback.  So, if you're interested, let me know.

Script Help and Language Discussion / Panorama Cotton - Silk String

Could someone help me translate a string I found in Panorama Cotton?  I've been inserting a script into Panorama Cotton that I've derived from the fairly comprehensive translation posted on GameFAQs.  However, I found a string that wasn't covered and I can't quite make sense of it.

「元気だしてよ、どんな魔物も やっつけちぁう、すんごい 魔法使いなんだから!」

Now, I'm pretty confident that the Kanji are correct, but just in case, here are the relevant screens:



For context, this dialog appears in Hard mode after beating the game.

Gaming Discussion / Interactive Fiction Recommendations

Has anyone played any interactive fiction/Text adventures they'd like to recommend?  I have a hankering for some text-parsing action.

Here's what I've played and can recommend:

Augmented Fourth
Spider and Web
Ad verbum, mostly for the alliteration puzzles
Anything by Emily Short, but I especially liked "Savoir Faire"

Personal Projects / Tablelib ported to .NET

So, because I was doing script work in c# and because I thought it might be useful to other people who were, I rewrote Klarth's c++ library in c#.  It can be found here: https://github.com/greenjaed/tablelib.NET.

Along the way, I cleaned up the code and extended the functionality of both TextEncoder and TextDecoder.  The documentation for it is still in development, but intellisence descriptions should be complete.  Let me know what you think.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Technical Term for a Table

If you were to describe a table in a general way, what would you call it?  You could just call it a Thingy table, but that only distinguishes it from other types of tables and doesn't tell you what it is.  I'd call it a custom character encoding table, but it supports more than just individual characters.  Depending on how you want to define it, a table also allows for some light scripting.  So, what do you call a table then?

What do you guys think?  While I can't run it full speed, I'm really excited about its debugging features.  I have yet to find a quality genesis debugger, but I think this one does it right.

I also like the idea of a virtual machine for gaming systems, though I don't know whether it will catch on.  Still, this is an impressive release.
