ROM Hacking Discussion / SMW Easy & Hard Modes
« on: December 02, 2021, 01:38:59 am »
I've decided to put Super Toads 3 on hiatus until further notice, and have instead decided to make two ROM Hacks of Super Mario World. As the title of this topic suggests, this was inspired by an old Flash game called Super Mario Bros. Crossover (which featured not just characters from Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Blaster Master, Contra, Castlevania, and Mega Man, but also two difficulties that would alter the layout of stages and add or remove enemies and hazards, with the stage layouts being those of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and the Japan-exclusive Super Mario Bros. Special). The alterations will add and remove stuff not used in the original levels (like Big Steelies in Front Door/Back Door in the Hard Mode hack and solid ground in the dreaded Power Balloon section of Tubular in the Easy Mode hack). While the hacks will be individually-made, they will be in a single .zip together, complete with Readme. The only things not to be altered include the boss fights with five out of the seven Koopalings, the Reznor boss fights, and the final showdown with Bowser. The only other changes beyond the altered difficulties involve Bowser's body and Yoshi's arms. Expect these mods to be released sometime in 2022.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that the Magikoopas will have the correct arrangement of blue shades in both hacks.

Gaming Discussion / Skyward Sword HD Coming Soon
« on: May 19, 2021, 05:51:37 am »
The Switch remaster of the Wii title, Skyward Sword, is coming to help celebrate Zelda's 35th Anniversary.

Given that premise, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if history repeated itself and a deluge of Groose-centered memes flooded social media and other active Zelda fansites...

Gaming Discussion / Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland Crashes Older Emulators?

I tried playing Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland on both DeSmuME and Twilight Menu ++, but when the game boots up, the applications crash. What could be the problem?

Since this year's Pokemon Day is music-themed, which musical Pokemon do you think has a chance of being Challenger Pack 9 in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Personal Projects / Tamagotchi Park (Saturn) English Translation/Hack
« on: February 09, 2021, 07:56:51 pm »
Since no one has ever made one, I'm looking for some disassembly tools for Saturn so I can properly hack and translate Tamagotchi Park for the 25th anniversary of the world's first virtual pet.

What does this hack entail?
The hack will not just be a 100% English translation, but will also be a graphics hack that will replace Oyajitchi, Sekitoritchi, and Charitchi (from the Japanese releases) with Bill a.k.a. Gaijintchi and Zatchi (from the international releases). The basic gameplay of the game will remain intact, though.

When will this hack be finished?
Similar to Super Toads 3, my SMB3 graphics hack that replaces the Mario Bros. with Blue and Yellow Toad, the release date is up in the air as of now. Once I've completed and bug tested the hack/translation, I will announce a release date.

Newcomer's Board / Just Curious About PSX Disc Patching
« on: May 10, 2020, 04:31:22 pm »
How does one patch a physical PSX disc? Even though I don't own an actual PS1 or any game discs associated with it, I've been wondering for some time. I'm willing to one day get a physical PS1 and a copy of MR2 so I can apply STARWIN's patches to the game, IF the North American version of MR1 makes it to Switch sometime in the future.

Personal Projects / Super Toads (SMB3 Hack Using SMM2 GFX)
« on: December 18, 2019, 09:11:56 pm »
Plot: Set in an alternate universe where Mario and Luigi are completely absent, Blue and Yellow Toad must revert the cursed Mushroom Kings back to normal and rescue Princess Peach from Bowser.

Made using YY-CHR and SMB3 Color Editor. This hack of Super Mario Bros. 3 also fixes some oversights like the "Toad Suit" and inverts the colors of the caps of the Super Mushroom and 1-Up Mushroom to the way they looked starting from Super Mario World onwards, as well as changing Peach's dialog to match the Japanese versions and SMA4. So far, I've got Small Toad at least 10% finished (lifted from Super Mario Maker 2's sprites), and I'm currently working on it, Super Toad/Fire Toad and Raccoon Toad. Tanooki Toad, Frog Toad, and Hammer Toad will be custom-made, mostly based on the Super/Fire form from SMM2. Screenshots will come eventually.

Gaming Discussion / Good News and Bad News

The good news is that Banjo and Kazooie are not far off, according to some Japanese advertisements.

The bad news is that Nintendo is cracking down on all video game music channels.
