So besides size what else is new about it? Obviously the world is completely different. There are a few new items to be found, one replacing the XRay visor and turning it into an automatic Shine Spark item. The others you will just have to find yourself. The bosses you know? Now most of them are at the very least changed slightly, and some of them are completely different fights now thanks to some amazing ASM done by some fellow hackers. There will even be new bosses to face, one of which is done, and some others currently being worked on. It uses a new HUD interface that was made specifically for Fear by yet another amazing SM hacker.
Fear is heavily influenced by Searching For Items. I loved that hack. I like collecting items, SFI had items everywhere, so I put items to collect everywhere in Fear too. They are probably better hidden and harder to get to than the ones in SFI, but there will be a lot of them, and it will be a focus of the hack. But the difficulty is higher than the original. The item pick-ups enemies drop will give you more to help make it slightly easier. This won't be an impossible hack, but it won't be a pushover either. The other thing I'm trying to focus on is exploration. I believe the player should be rewarded for looking in odd corners, and so I hope the player looks, and maybe they'll find something useful.
So now for the few videos. You will notice I have already released a "Final Teaser" of Fear. This doesn't mean it is weeks away, it just means you've got this content only until the hack is finished.
Release is still TBD, but right now it stands at TBD 2012, which is something I've never been able to say before. I fully expect it to be done this year, though setbacks do happen. However, in the end I'm hoping this turns out to be a fun little distraction for those who play it.
