I'm gonna work on the frames to see if I can make it into something I like with the default frame (I forgot how it worked, so I'm looking back at pg43).  Since you said it's unlikely that it'll work, I won't get any hopes up, but I shall try things with Tile Layer.  If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work.  Oh well.

Say, I noticed that some people (after their name display) have Caps after "...", whereas others don't.  Most of them were lower case though, so I'm guessing that was your intention.  Still, some were caps.  Were the caps intentional?

For example, in event 55E, there's:

Personally, I prefer caps for the first letter after the "...", assuming it's after a name.  But that's just me.

I tried Only_Weak_Obstacles.  It works great.  On testing, I noticed that axe doesn't cut grass tiles, even in vanilla (it cuts bush just fine).  I mean, grass isn't really important since you can walk right over grass, but I just find that hilarious.

The gap on that text box frame is a technical limitation. That border's tile's pixels can only be black, gray, white or transparent. So that gap can only be colored black, gray or white, or the frame can be narrowed so that it's adjacent to the interior tiles, but then you lose the extra spacing. For Alternate_Text_Boxes, I added the edges of a grid to that frame so that it'd mesh with the two large grid backgrounds, but that's possibly as good as it gets.

Better_Default_Text_Boxes lets you choose the style number, which is a frame / background pair. On the text box edit screen, notice how if you press up/down, each frame has a specific background with it, which you can then change? They're all defined in pairs. I might be able to change it so all pairs default to a specified background number, but that's low priority.

I see.  Then could you switch the default background for frame 0 from 0 to 2?  And then edit the edge frame 0 match 2?

As I played, I found that background 0 and 1 makes the reading quite hard.  I actually prefer solid, but I'm guessing you'd like that to go with 3, since that's your default setting.

Thanks for making the sub feature for All_Weapons_Destroy_Obstacles.  I only understood little bit of the details of All_Weapons_Destroy_Obstacles sub feature codes.  But based on sword_axe (relative to glove_sword_axe and spear_whip), there are tiles which can only be damaged by sword and axe, but not any other melee weapons? (even after the sub feature)  I know that the bush and the fortress crystals are vulnerable to swords and axe, but the sub feature is supposed to make them vulnerable to all melee attacks, right? (including javelin's stab attack and boomerang's charge attack)  As far as I know, there are 4 tiles that can be affected by weapons -- bush, boulder, ancient city crystal, and mana fortress crystal.

I found some graphic error (vanilla has it too if I remember correctly).  When the ninjas throw their shurikens upward, there's a graphic error.  Just upwards though:

I'm not sure if any other enemies have this problem.

Also, for Alternate_Text_Boxes, could you make it so that the empty part of background when using the default text frame matches the background?  I like to use the default text frame (although with solid background), but that "empty side line" always bothered me.  I know that the reason the default frame has that problem is because the default frame has that extra pixels on both sides.  And that's actually why I like that frame -- thin frame with the biggest text space.



And if possible, if you can create something so that we can choose the default background too (Better_Default_Text_Boxes only allows to choose the frame, not the background), that'll be great.

The Flammie Drum stuff is basically two bugs. When first triggered as it gets ready to pan upwards, sometimes it overwrites enemy / NPC sprite graphics which you can see sometimes. That's likely the glitchy graphics you're sometimes seeing after the Mech Rider 2 fight, is Truffle's graphics getting scrambled during the pan up, and it's not unique to there.

So I'm guessing it's either unfixable (due to hardware limit) or not really worthy of being fixed?  Did this also occur for vanilla?  I don't remember seeing that in vanilla, but it's been a long time since I explored vanilla.

Can you recommend me a snes emulator?  One where I can use par codes, save state, and speed up (a button for speed up, like you used "`" for snes to suddenly speed up like crazy).  Speed up and and par code usage is the main reason I still use the extremely-old zsnes.

Looking forward to your knowledge regarding All_Weapons_Destroy_Obstacles.

Based on the world map at that time, I think that originally, you weren't able to simply walk to the transport tile outside the Water Palace, and needed a whip to get there in the first place as it was on an island.  I think it was Queue who noted that at this point in development, the whip mechanic was similar to Final Fantasy Adventure in that the poles were directly across from each other.  Looking at the world map, it seems that you walked west of the Water Palace and south to Gaia's Navel, whereas in the final, the two areas are cut off, and there's a dead end at the cannon travel and transport to the Haunted Forest.  The area on the right in that picture went south to Neko's.

As for the Pandora/Gaia's Navel path, at this point it was still very early, and seems to be a huge open area based on the world map; they were probably prototyping.

Ah, I see.  I never played FFAdventure, but I did play Sword of Mana (GBA), which I heard was just FFAdv remake.

In any case, do you plan on making Reborn into the new map?  Personally, I prefer the original SoM map, since there's really no point in making another whip post, and Gaia Naval's zig-zag path is more interesting than a totally open area.

I'm not about the other areas, but that whip usage area to haunted forest pad seems interesting.  I guess that would imply that the whip you pick up in the Witch's castle belonged to Dyluck (or one of his men).  Maybe.  Then again, it would be strange for Primm to not make any comment about that whip if it had belonged to Dyluck.

I was wrong.  I played the vanilla version, and in the snake bosses, there's no white screen nor victory music.  Vanilla Dark Lich battle doesn't have the victory music, but it has the white screen.  So no errors.  My bad.  I have no idea why I didn't realize that vanilla had that error.

Against most bosses, when you defeat one, there's an explosion (red), then a white screen, then you get that the boss dusts + victory fist pumps + music, then recovery.  In the snake bosses, you don't get the white screen nor the dust/pumps/music (you pose when you recover though).

Also, there's an error that I previously posted (but you may not have seen that post) -- when you auto-use Wind Drum after beating Mech Rider 2, there's a graphic glitch error.  Well, most times.

Flammie doesn't pick up Truffle either, but that may be vanilla error.

Say, for my private usage, if I wanted to make things so that all melee weapons would destroy sword-destroyable obstacles, but not axe-destroyable obstacles, how would I change things?  I typically use All_Weapons_Destroy_Obstacles, but since Reborn specifically says that axe can destroy the boulders (implying some obstacles like boulders are axe-only), I want to make it so that all melee attacks only destroy the sword-obstacles (bush, mana fortress crystal), but not axe-obstacles (boulder, ancient city sand).

hmsong I was thinking that instead of a boss in the Moon Temple maybe have some Empire type enemies as sort of a mini boss, like 3 Ninja's for example or Armored Knights, falls in line also with them being after the seeds.

Would even go as far as replacing the useless 3 bitting lizards boss in Ice Castle, it's a very boring fight, might well face a later enemy like maybe 3 Ninja's/Armored Knights/Ghouls as mini boss.

I can certainly put enemies in Moon Palace, but you'd be able to ignore them, which makes the entire endeavor meaningless.  And I have absolutely no idea how to connect certain map to another.  And I have a feeling that it'd screw up something somewhere, as it'd mess with some events.

Replacing the Biting Lizards in the Ice Palace shouldn't be that hard, but I'm betting it'll affect how you're supposed to be teleported to the other map.  And I'm betting the purpose of Biting Lizards in Ice Palace was to make you waste MP or something -- they keep using multi-healing whenever injured past certain HP... probably to force you to use magic for a massive damage.

Damn, I wish I knew how to record video when playing game.  I'm using zsnes, but if you know how to record video using zsnes, please teach me, and I'll upload the video to show the difference between vanilla and Turbo Reborn version when beating the snakes/dark lich bosses.  Different emulators work too, although I'll have to learn how to use those first.

At the ending, why is Randi thinking about Dyluck, whereas Primm says nothing about Dyluck?  That's just too weird.  I know Randi knew Dyluck, but nowhere near the level of Primm.

Well, I finally finished playing Reborn and noted things as much as I could (at least the first play).  I very much enjoyed this.  Thank you, ManaRedux and Queue.  I will of course continue to play this over and over again to see if I can find some more things.

I wish Moon Palace had some sort of improvement -- with the dungeon boss being Gorgon Bull (with Gorgon Bull removed from the Light Palace).  I say Gorgon Bull, instead of Blue Spike, since Gorgon Bull is easier to beat (due to it being slow and having element weakness) if people used Early Luna.

Oh well.

Some more:
1) During the final scene of the Mana Holy Land, the conversation was suppose to last to the exact moment of the music's end (before Thanatos blows up the tree), but it ends before the music is completed -- that really decreases the epicness of the scene.  Perhaps you can add an additional text box or something to extend the conversation, so that the music actually finishes?
2) During the Mana Tree conversation, the tree says, "In a moment, godbeasts from throughout the world will gather...".  Don't you mean, "In a moment, godbeasts throughout the world will gather..."? (delete "from")
3) During the Mana Tree conversation, the tree says, "Among living things, it's unique in that way."  Perhaps, "Among all living things,"?
4) Same conversation... "But when so much Mana is lost, so fast, the Mana Beast..." -- I don't think there's supposed to be a comma between "lost" and "so".

It seems that it's not just Great Viper, but also Dragon Worm that is missing the "explosion, victory pose, music, etc" at the end.  That may need fixing.

Also, the same for Dark Lich.

Yes.  Sheex impersonated the Chancellor so he could surrender Tasnica to the Empire.  To get revenge on Jema exposing him, he sends everyone but Randi and friends back to the entrance of the castle, and threatens them if they don't execute the Chancellor.  You know how it goes.

Okay, but how was Sheex threatening the party to kill the chancellor?  I mean, it seemed like Sheex was saying, "I want you to kill the Hostage A, or I'll kill the Hostage A".  It doesn't seem to make sense.

And as for His Majesty, I'm not particularly against the Tasnica ruler to be called chancellor.  But I just feel weird that some people called him chancellor, and other call him His Majesty (chancellor definitely won't be called His Majesty... unless chancellors are called that way).  I just want consistency, regardless of what he's called.

Some more:

1) The fake chancellor says, "Now, let's all use this opportunity to end the chancellor...".  Then Randi says, "Or not.  Just try to make us."  Was the Darkstalker/fake chancellor trying to mind control the party to make them kill the real chancellor?  I don't understand what that means.
2) After defeating Darkstalker, in the conversation with the chancellor, one of the lines auto-proceeds before I even get the chance to read it.
3) After defeating Darkstalker, one of the guards (in another room) says, "His Majesty trusts Jema before all others."  Wasn't he a chancellor in the new translation?  Chancellors aren't called "His Majesty", right?

Also,  should I replay the Reborn so that I don't point out the previous mistakes?  Or should I continue this playthrough using the previous version?  Or would it cause problem if I use my current save file for the new version?

1) One of the ladies in the Turtle island says, "I don't forget the old days when everything was so lavish".  Don't you mean, "I won't forget"?
2) In the Lofty Mountain village, the old man outside the temple says, "Hey! Don't get be getting in the way of prayer!"  I think it should be, "Hey! Don't get in the way of the prayers!"  Or "Hey! Stop getting in the way of the prayers!" (notice I added "the" and plural of prayer).

I see.  Wow, the sheer amount of reference and research you did is amazing.

I think this wins the award for #1 item of feedback on Reborn.  Believe it or not, it is undoubtedly Randi reacting to the possessed townsfolk in the Japanese script.  This may have been a mistake on the developers' part, as every other instance of the same dialogue seems to emanate from a possessed person.  We left it in because it still makes sense.  One thing we could do is make it, "Randi:......!"  The exclamation point would indicate a reaction, but may be a bit more than what was intended there.

Woot!

Anyways, I'm betting it's a dev mistake.  I'm not sure what the best solution is, but it's good to know that it was on purpose, and why it was on purpose.  However you decided to fix (if you decide to fix), I'll take it.

Tl;dr it's a reference to the Latin phrase, Nemo me impune lacessit, which nicely reflects the original sentiment, especially as it's adopted as a military/regal motto.

Never heard of that before, but I still think the sentence structure should be corrected.  I'll leave that to you.

However, I have bad news.  After looking at some lines in the script and other materials, we discussed the strong possibly of a romance between these two.   At the very least, Fanha has been lured into Thanatos' cause to the point of obsession.

I have some more:

1) Marikto's name sounds weird and awkward.  It's either "Marikuto", or "Marikoto", or "Maritto", or "Marito", isn't it?  There's no "kto" in Japanese sound, right?  I personally prefer, "Mariko" -- sounds more natural.
2) In the Northtown Ruins, when talking to the brainwashed cultist in the room where Dyluck is in, it says, "Randi: ...".  Randi isn't the person to be silenced, is he?
3) At the end of Northtown's Emperor's castle, Geshtar says, "No one harms me unpunished!"  I don't think that's quite right.  I think what you meant was, "No one harms me and gets unpunished!"  Or, "No one who harms me gets unpunished!"  I know it's wordier, but I can't think of a way to reduce that (unless you want to reduce some other sentences in the same scene).
4) For a moment, when you leave the Emperor's castle via the Truffle cutscene, I can see that there's some sort of graphic error.  And there's no "Wind Drum usage animation" either.

Glad to be of help.  Hopefully, I don't annoy you guys too much.

Some more:

1) In Ice Country paradise, after freeing Salamando, the fire furnace moves downward when the Scorpion gang flees South.  This definitley wasn't present in vanilla, so it's probably Reborn error (or Turbo error).
2) In Kakkara, there's one lady that says, "there's a village like paradise...".  Maybe it's supposed to be, "there's a paradise-like village..."?
3) When you beat Frost Gigas and Santa talks to you, he says, "When mana fades...".  "mana" is not capitalized, unlike others who say the word Mana, with capitalized M.
4) There's nothing wrong with this script, but I just found it funny.  In that new room in the Northtown, one of the ladies says that Thanatos and Fanha spends a lot of time talking alone.  Then she wonders what they're up to.  That sounds dirty.  But we all know that Thanatos is undead, so that just sounds gross.
5) From time to time, when Krissie comes to talk at the entrance of Northtown Ruins, she is not very visible.  I'm not sure if this is vanilla problem, or Reborn problem.
