My favorite 1st person Western RPG series! (Don't worry, I love Wizardry and Dungeon Master, too!)

I prefer the Japanese version of Two myself, as I like the combat better, but one should play the PC version or the updated Western Genesis or SNES versions first, if you intend to truly play through the series.

Start with the first one on the NES, as I think it plays the best.  The first one on PC Engine CD is not exactly cannon, but try it anyway.  The PCE-SCD version of the third installment is excellent, and even outdoes the PC one graphically.  Each has their own soundtrack, though.  For the fourth/fifth, get World of Xeen, CD version, so you get ALL the voice acting!

Six through Eight on PC are all good, though most like Six the best.  Seven sees the introduction of Arcomage!

Avoid number 9!!!!  Even with community fixes, it just does not satisfy.  I'll leave number ten up to you, as while it tries to be kind of like Xeen, I don't feel the same vibe.

Oh!  And don't forget Swords of Xeen, a fan game using the Xeen engine.  I wish more fan games had been made like that.

Kinda like Nintendo returning to its card and toy roots.
I think that it would be great for general creativity and learning how things are constructed.  And since it's cardboard, you could make your own pieces even decades later as long as your Switch still worked.

There actually was a one-handed controller for the original Playstation, but I don't think it faired very well.

Gyruss for the NES wasn't that bad for me, but then I had played the arcade one countless times, so it felt more like Gyruss+ than anything else.

Hmmmm..... There were sooo many . . . .

You might want to check out Game Center CX, as it features many "NES hard" games.

My personal list would include:
(This is all back in the day, mind you.)

Destination Earthstar - The flight sim part was easy; it was the horizontal shooting stages that got me.

Mike Tyson's Punchout - I'm just not good at pattern recognition.  I did manage to legitimately reach Tyson, but . . . DAMN!

Metroid - I had to randomly smash in codes till I got decent ones, and even then, beating Mother Brain AND climbing all that way back up got me so angry I punched my TV screen so hard I thought I broke it, my hand, or both!  It took me six months to even THINK of trying again!

Anything Mario - I HATE platformers!!!!! (Though I could make hardcore runs through Contra.  Go figure . . .)

Anything Castlevania - See Mario above.  I did like Symphony of the Night and that GBA one, though.
