So, Sakura Wars for the PS2 has two .cvm files (one for each layer), and I can't find a single program to extract either one.
I aim to translate the game (to Brazilian Portuguese, to be exact), and it seems all of the games files are inside the .CVM containers, so unpacking and repacking them is a necessity.
Interestingly, the only one that gives me SOME information sends a message requesting a password for encryption.
I'm not sure if the file is actually encrypted (Persona 3/4 have these kind of files as well, and you don't need a password as far as I know), but I for sure can't hack them.
Any help would be appreciated.  ;)

Here's the message in detail, for those curious:

This hack is simply amazing!
Feels like a product released by Nintendo themselves. :D
have you got any plans on translating this to other languages (or making it feasible for those who want to do that)?
Due to the small amount of text and graphics to translate, I could even arrange a portuguese version of them, if you want.
Either way, congratulations on getting this out!

Hello, it's me again, the guy who wanted to translate this mod to Brazilian Portuguese.
Well, we ran into some problems using our own text dumper/inserter, and if there is any way you could send the one you are using, we'd very much appreciate it.

Hi Steve, you have my permission to translate it, but please keep in mind that Project II isn't a translation, but a "script rewrite." So my script may not be the most accurate compared to an official translation.
Don't worry. :D
Thanks!

Finished the game, wondering if you can give me permission to translate your version to Brazilian Portuguese. It's really great!  ;)
Even have some tools ready.

We need people who can edit the in game graphics to match the Brazilian Portuguese translation we're working on (and going quite smoothly).

I'm going to be playing FFIV for my first time. Should I use this version?
And are more famous lines, such as "You Spoony Bard", in the game?

Suggestion:
Cindy Stone -> Cíntia Pedra
(as in "Senti a Pedra", i.e. she died getting hit with a stone statue).
And as a bonus it is actually the literal translation of English name. But the pun works better in Portuguese! :laugh:
I didn't get the intended pun of the other translation("Cintia Mallman")

Edit: and I just realized your nickname here is a pun too... nice one haha
Thanks!

EDIT: I really do need someone to insert the text.

I agree 100% with translating the names.
I found the old translation names here, if you are interested:
https://web.archive.org/web/20120122124029/http://www.romhacking.trd.br/projects/pw/doku.php?id=tabelas_de_equivalencia
Ha ha ha, thanks, I will make good use of this!  :laugh:

Due to text limitations, all changes to the script will be made on GBAtemp. I made a few changes to the first case's script already. Note that the names are not yet localized.

"Roberto Serto" sounds funny and (literally) right, but I'd recommend you to not translate the names. Most people, even the ones playing the translation, know a bit of English and won't find it difficult to understand the meaning behind "Phoenix" and "(W)right".

For reference, you can check how the official Spanish translation solved the references to the name.
That's a possibility I'll investigate, though I believe the reason all versions (with exception of the french one) didn't adapt the names from english because of time or lack of interest. Either way, I'm OK with leaving the main characters' names alone, though I don't think there's a particular good reason not to change to secondary ones. Thanks for the suggestion, nonetheless.  :thumbsup:

I plan on doing a semi full translation of the DS version of the first game (don't plan on translating 1-5), and while I can adapt the full script, I need someone to insert the text, change the graphics and give name suggestions. The text will be adapted based on the script by Dylan Mead. For now, here are the name plans (you can suggest changes to already determined names):
  • Phoenix Wright ---> Roberto Serto
  • Mia Fey ---> Unchanged
  • Larry Butz ---> ?
  • Cindy Stone ---> Cíntia Pedra
  • Winston Payne ---> ?
  • Frank Sahwit ---> Vitor Hugo/Élvis Tudo (tell me which you prefer)
  • Maya Fey ---> Unchanged
  • Dick Gumshoe ---> ?
  • Miles Edgeworth ---> Eduardo Ulísses
  • April May ---> Vera Verão/Márcia Abril (tell me which you prefer)
  • Marvin Grossberg ---> ??? Brayan
  • Bellboy ---> Mensageiro/Serviçal/Camareiro (tell me which you prefer)
  • Redd White ---> Unchanged (he'll have an american persona)
  • Steel Samurai ---> Samurai de Aço
  • Evil Magistrate ---> Magistrado Perverso/Magistrado do Mal/Magistrado Malvado (tell me which one you prefer)
  • Will Powers ---> Willian Rodrigues
  • Jack Hammer ---> Brito Adeira
  • Wendy Oldbag ---> ??? Maritraca (spelled like this on purpose)
  • Penny Nichols ---> ?
  • Sal Manella ---> Sal Monella/Salmo Nella (tell me which you prefer)
  • Cody Hackins ---> Hugo Bissecado
  • Dee Vasquez ---> Diva Indade
  • Lotta Hart ---> Boa Ventura/Sheila Coração/Sheila Paixão (tell me which you prefer)
  • Robert Hammond ---> Benjamin Ramón
  • Misty Fey ---> Unchanged (the pun also works in portuguese)
  • Gregory Edgeworth ---> Gregório Ulísses
  • Manfred von Karma ---> Manfredo Feliciano/Manfredo von Karma (tell me which you prefer)
  • Yanni Yogi ---> Yanni Yago
  • Missile ---> Míssil/Bala (tell me which you prefer)
  • Polly ---> ?
  • Court Record ---> Registro da Corte

I'm currently working on the translation of the first case. If anyone would please volunteer to help (in any way), I'd be greatly thankful. If this turn out to be a successful translation, I will look forward to translate the following titles. Everyone involved WILL be credited.

Newcomer's Board / Re: How to change Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney's script?
« on: September 04, 2016, 02:24:53 pm »
I'm currently doing that, but I have a problem: accented letter. Not only do all of them have to be coded like {90} (can't find a list saying which number corresponds to what), but french has no "~", making words like "não" (no) impossible. Is there a way to code this symbol in the game?

There's this: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/419/
I haven't used it, I literally searched after I saw your post.
I think there's already a pt-br translation in progress, I remember seeing that a long time
This one is for Justice for All, and I can't get it to work even with that. The PT-BR translation has been in development hell for ages, too, there for I can't ask them how they were doing it. BTW, trying to do the European rom, because French has all the necessary characters.
