Maybe you and I both read the same thing recently! ...

Yes, that's correct. :)

I've taken a stab a translating a couple of Japanese PC ADV and RPGs, and one refreshing thing is the standard of writing tends to be significantly higher as the intended audience is at an adult reading level. They also tend to use a lot of kanji which can make reading raw a challenge, but are helpful in translation as the intended meanings are clearer.

Nice.

Oh, I just found out about another game that came to the PC-98 called Digan no Maseki. It's an adventurous RPG with pretty nice visuals (eg. in the cutscenes) that was drawn by a good Japanese artist. It first came on PC-88 and MSX2 but was then ported to the PC-98, though the top-down in-game world exploration still looks to be very much PC-88 graphics.

Also you may want to take a look at the many beautiful screens of games on the PC-98 and some other Japanese computers here. I think it'll be worth your while.

Has anyone seen Pascal's title screen hack work for this game? It's not yet on RHDN I think. You'd have to ask him here.

Personal Projects / Re: Romancing SaGa 3 English re-translation [WIP]

Hey. I couldn't find this thread in a search results page, only found it from a link at the end of the game's Spanish translation thread, weirdly enough.

I hope you'll forgive the 'minimal' bump because this is critically relevant to this series of games. My favourite SNES fan channel 'SNES drunk' has created a new series retrospective video of Romancing SaGa, uploaded at the start of this month of August. I think it also would be prudent to link it in the OP.

Your new website is very nice. Ooh, mwah, mwah :-*, totally beautiful! But it doesn't appear to list the four older projects that your namesake team had done previously. Will you add the pages for them there?

Personal Projects / Re: Translations of early Famicom games

Have you been aware of Binary Land released on the Famicom in December 1985, which is a much enhanced port of a 1984 MSX port (also released in Europe) of a 1983 FM-7 Original? The Famicom port was never released overseas but all text in it seem to be in English.
The game page for this port has five hacks but no translation.
HG101 did a retrospective on it recently this month.

Liking the new format. Looks very good! Still clean and easy to use but with some key enhancements. Miss the darker blue theme though[RHDN Pro], it's easier on the eye's and simply classic RHDN. And if I may suggest HTTPS? Remember reading that it was being worked on but can't remember what the difficulty was. With hacking and MITM attacks becoming more and more prevalent, it would seem very wise to start using it. If there is a cost to making it happen, maybe setup a Patreon so we all can offer donations to the running costs and upkeep of the site.

Especially like the screen shot for new projects! Very cool touch.
Yeah, yeah. I made a post earlier in this thread voicing my opinions on this new design on the desktop computer. But recently I've taken a look at it on a mobile smartphone and, needless to say, I'm quite disappointed. The information/content feel very restricted. Selecting on a menu option to open up a drop-down menu is a bit clumsy as it usually may be on a smartphone - I needed to wait for an external menu (browser's menu) to pop up before moving my finger around the outside and then clicking on a sub-menu. Very clumsy of course. But checking the submissions page I see no 'Reasons' category like the others have pointed out.

But I want to make a complaint about this new design on the desktop computer that should be addressed, IMO. Every day whenever I come onto it it always opens up in the new design when I thought it should be permanently set on the old RHDN Pro theme as I selected back then. I have to do this every day. It's a bit annoying.

Go to Profile -> Account Settings, then hover over the "Modify Profile" button to reach the Look and Layout section; you can change the forum theme there.

Personally I'm going to stick with the old standard theme - this new one is a little too spread out for my liking.

Because it's a bunch of extra clutter that is completely irrelevant to what you're doing. Keep in mind that this mess shows up on every, single, page.
If anything this just further highlights the problems, as it starts eating up space from the given page you're actually interested in being on.

Honestly I was kind of excited when I saw the update, but if anything I feel the website is worse than before. A showcase of recently added content seems pointless, since we have regular news posts to that. But I can't help but agree what having some extra visibility to old content on the site is great. But the amount of space allocated to that should be a reasonable amount, and preferably restricted to the front page. If I'm a search page or an article chances are I already know or have an idea of what I'm looking for, no need to barf out unrelated content at me that eats up screen space (and page load time/bandwidth, what with the extra images).

I looked numerous times last night and just looked today. I couldn't find anything to change the theme for the main site.

Same here. I like the new layout of the main site and forum but when I select the Metroid theme the forum has the old layout and the main site is unchanged. The new layout with the Metroid theme colors would be cool enough for me.

I'm using Firefox and Windows 7 and the main page does not have the menu on the left side.

EDIT: I even cleared my browser history and reloaded the page but it still did not appear.
I (and I think a couple people before me) figured it out.  The updated site, on the default theme, requires users to have a display with greater than 1366 px (which is my laptop's maximum display width) to see the left sidebar.  Alternately, zooming out to 90% in Google Chrome seemed to do it, for me.  Changing the theme from RNDH Boss to RNDH Pro changed the site back to what it was before, but for those who are curious, yes, the Metroid theme is still there and fully-compatible with the new HTML5/CSS3 backend!  At least, as far as I can tell.

So... yeah!  The new theme is not exactly ideal and I would have gotten used to it, but I'm infinitely happy that I don't even have to!  Yay!

Edit: Changing the site theme also changes the forum theme, just like always. (You can still set the forum theme independently of the site theme, though.)

Oh, thanks. Thankfully, there are actually two ways to edit the themes both on the homepage and all related page types plus the drop-down menu over the modify profile button in the forum for the whole forum and your profile. Hmm.

I kinda liked the new design at first, including the extra updates and screenshots on the right panes. But... I do not like the too light blue background in all text boxes behind the news posts and ALL patch/hack pages. It's just too bright for my eyes, not enough contrast there. Also to make matters worse the outer white background around the inner frames/boxes just further exacerbates the problem. Also the lack of contrast in the rows with lines in the credit lists everywhere makes it that much harder to follow who did what on their works.
So yeah, I completely went back to the old RHDN Pro theme for the general website and the same one in my forum, although i may change the latter if I don't mind it or there are some improvements to be made.

After reading some of the new ideas for this site, yeah, I would like for the ability to search for/catch a ready username to be much easier when editing the credits in a file page.

Well, have you checked out bizhawk? Its SNES core "uses v87 of bsnes (heavily modified)". Wiki.

Oh yeah, there are plenty of bugs in the original version of this game. I didn't introduce any (well, I did at one point, but was able to fix it). Here's the list of bugs that I remember. I asked my testers not to report them as errors with the translation patch, because I checked and encountered all of them in the official release, too: http://fwibby.16mb.com/
Ah, would you want me to add that list of bugs note as a link in the Game Description sector of the relevant game here? Not sure if the moderators would allow that but it can be tried. I hope that someone can add that to the TCRF page.

I think that being able to see the credits is important, even if they're just in Japanese. The people that worked on this game deserve to have their names shown for their effort. As for translation, someone else already did that (http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/nes/b/goemongai1.htm). Note that the way their mock-ups look probably wouldn't be reproducible in the game, you'd have to make the text much smaller to get everything to fit properly.
Well, I think that translated ending credits roll page could be very useful to add on as a link to the credits fix hack page, what do you think, rainponcho?

EDIT: Well, it appears that TCRF :police: has a rule stating that no information on glitches should be added there. What a bummer.
Well, I'm just going to copy the notes in the spoiler body below here so that it doesn't get lost forever. At least you can click on the 'News Articles for this Translation' text under the Links sector in the patch page above and then go to the bracketed comments text at the bottom-right corner of the front-page news for it which leads to this thread. And then see these notes.

Spoiler:
Bugs in original game:

I discovered several bugs while playing this game, which are all in the offical release by Konami. Please don't report these to me, as I didn't introduce them and don't know how to fix them. Here are the ones I remember:

*Invisible option in shops
By playing around with the options after selling your last item in a shop, you'll sometimes discover an invisible third option. Selecting it does nothing. It's pretty harmless. There's a boss fight where Yae can sometimes target an invisible enemy too, but the game thinks the enemy is dead. You can also see this in action by selecting a Jutsu that's low on the list and trying to use it while that character's Jutsu is sealed.

*Palette glitch
If you try to see the "show" at the first port, but don't have enough money, the NPC will ask you if you enjoyed the show (despite never seeing it), then the screen will flash a few times. After this, the palette will be screwed up, and this even extends to the world map. I think it does change back eventually, but it's probably best not to mess around with this one too much.

*Scroll depth
In some parts of the game (it happened to me in Bear's Castle, but I saw it happen somewhere else in a gameplay video), the borders that are supposed to be off-screen can close in for some reason, and two thirds of the screen will be messed up. This glitch is pretty annoying in dungeons, as it can make it hard to figure out what you're looking at, but you can fix it by using a Mirror item (or Koban's Exit Jutsu) and resting at a nearby inn or food shop.

*Soft lock
In one of the last dungeons in the game, in the room where you find the "Pout Mask" key item, a softlock can occur if you walk up and down the left side of a small wall in that room until a battle is initiated. After the battle, all buttons will stop responding. This is related to the scroll depth glitch.

*Corrupt credits
The credits sequence, while short, doesn't display correctly. Again, the original game does this too. Someone did fix it once, but apparently it just broke the title screen instead.

*Item overflow (the house plant)
If you fill your inventory, then use the Item command in a battle, 3 or 4 extra items will be listed: at least one "HOUSEPLA", and 2 others (which I presume depend on what else is in your inventory). While the other items do exist in the game, "HOUSEPLA" is the result of the game looking at the incorrect dictionary and also getting the length of the text wrong. "HOUSEPLA" can be used as an item (it does moderate damage), but it isn't supposed to exist and causes a bit of strange text.

*Flickering tilesets
This happened to me in 2 places, most notably one of the tea houses. Depending on where you stand when talking to certain NPCs, some letters may appear to intermittently flash along with a junk tile from another tileset. Similarly, depending on where you stand when opening the menu in towns, some of the water tiles may temporarily turn into numbers as the menu comes up.

*Ebisumaru's here... in spirit
There are 2 sections of the game where Ebisumaru isn't supposed to be in the party. With certain combinations of enemies and enemy Jutsus, a dead Ebisumaru can sometimes show up in his slot during battles. You can't revive him to make him active. (WTF, Konami?)

Just a reminder that rainponcho (see above) has graciously released a fix hack to enable the credits in this game to be displayed properly but the text are in Japanese. So either the translation project's leader or somebody else, as he said, can try to translate and insert the English text instead.

13
Wait a minute, do you also go by the nickname of 'Eldinen' over at GBATemp. Is that right?

Apparently, someone else had created a thread about needing hacking help for three games, including this DS game you're now working on, last year. He has a translator friend says he's interested in translating this one. Problem is his last activity here and at GBATemp was in December of 2016 but he's got an email address that you can reach for contact.

14
Just wanted to inform you that Hotaru (Here) or Eldinen (GBATemp, but looks to be the same person) is hacking that DS game Endless Frontier EXCEED.

15
Maybe because the patch hosting would be external anyway. Or maybe everyone thinks PSP is still off limits. I'm just speculating of course.

Re: the screenshots, I noticed that the fonts in the Mecha status screen (3rd one) look rather strange, but I can't produce a better one in PPSSPP in native res. It displays fine with 2x rendering res. Dunno if this is some bug or intentional.
After what you said, yeah I couldn't see the fonts in that screen well. But of course the PPSSPP emulator's window can be blown up to read some of those fonts a bit better.

I checked here and this site has got less than two and a half pages' worth of PSP game listings, most of them with translation pages. But I am fairly impressed to see that still just less than one and a half pages of English-language PSP translations exist, almost of all of them in a fully playable state! The RPG games on the PSP tend to have tens of thousands lines in the scripts and they take years to finish, so kudos to all the team members who've worked on them.

There are still many more PSP projects in the pipeline in the community, although as you can predict most of them go by rather slowly.

I only learnt a few days ago that a near-complete English translation patch (99% in fact) do exist for Valkyria Chronicles III: Extra Edition (With the DLCs). It's not here, so maybe it's time for it to be added. BUT that blog was last updated on early 2014, nigh on 3.5 years ago and they still have to fix the errors in the patch. That's not nice of them to not update with any news on there or even at GBATemp... Just let the people know what's up.

However, a glimmer of hope could arise from the fact that Valkyria Chronicles 1 Remastered was released in English on PS4 and Steam PC. So perhaps Sega could do the same thing for VC3 on those platforms, (crosses fingers).

16
Congratulations, BlackDog61. You just got your first project credit for another mecha game on the PSP!

17
Finally took the time to add the patch page for this game. It took me several hours in each of three or four days, I think, to 1) compile online information, 2) collate all the info together in one document, 3) edit the patch page & 4) at the same time, test the game (Also I found out about the warship number inside the game profile page in the menu, which I couldn't find anywhere online) and create the relevant screenshots (Coz the damn screenshots at the gbatemp thread were too large! Probably twice as large in res!).
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/3029/

Thus it makes you wonder as to why anyone from the very large team there that have worked on this game's English translation project (for 2.5 years) didn't bother to do likewise...

the icon between the lightning and "P" on the skill icons is .... i dont know :P it's the default icon and i saw no reason to change it really. The "AT" was changed to "P" since the auto-skills was changed to passive skills so the icon was changed to reflect that, aside that, i left the skill icons alone.

...
After taking a good, hard look at that '3-cross' icon, I think I now know what it may be. It's maybe supposed to be a 'stun' spell or maybe 'heal' magic. It probably indicates a person seeming to be unconscious or knocked out. Do you use it to stun enemies?

Yes, I like that skull icon better. But I don't understand that unusual character in the icon between the lightning and 'P' (New) symbols. What is it? Everything else looks perfect.

Oh, just now, I've noticed that Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception will be coming to the PS4 and PS Vita in English very soon, as well as Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth coming later on this year. Wow, what an unbelievable time to get started into the "Utawarerumono" series, what with one instalment on the PSP that you're working on. But are you also interested in a total of 3 un-translated Japanese-only "Utawarerumono" games?

Beautiful
This is looking really good. Like the font you've chosen.

Yeah, agreed. I noticed both sets of fonts and they're much more beautiful. Sure, yeah, those character portraits are enhanced much better with a nicer contrast in their backgrounds.
