Personal Projects / Re: Super Mario Land 2 DX [Updated to v1.6]
« on: May 04, 2018, 07:31:31 am »
Thanks! V1.6 now loads fine, even on my trusty 2015 build of VBA-M.

Just fyi, one more time, for posterity!  :)

If your image is in the iso/cue format, you need to convert it into separate tracks:

You can do this using a program called TurboRip
the PC Engine/TG-16 CD-ROM ISO/WAV/CUE Ripper:

And to extract the rom from the data track (track 2),
you need subfile.exe from the ECM Command-Line Pack:

To now extract "Formation Soccer Human Cup '92" from "Human Sports Festival", do this:

subfile.exe track2.iso 0x221000 262144 soccer.pce
then apply:

And to extract "Final Match Tennis Ladies" do:
subfile.exe track2.iso 0x1e1000 262144 tennis.pce

And apply, in this order the following patches (or it will glitch):

1. Final Match Tennis Ladies.pce.ips
2. Final Match Tennis Ladies (J)-tm_v1.0.ips (enables training mode)
3. Final Match Tennis Ladies (J)-translation_v1.0.ips (English translation)

Can you do this for the English US release of the game instead of (Japan) (Rev 0A)?

Someone should realize Predator Aliens Rambo Contra, PARC, like seen in this wonderful mockup by Revility:

Newcomer's Board / Re: SNES ROM Types

Byuu (bsnes/higan creator) said over at smw central once:

The extension is unimportant, the actual format is 100% identical.

.smc stands for Super Magicom, which was one of the earliest SNES copiers. The irony is that 90% of dumps come from SWC DX2s and GDSF7s.

.sfc stands for Super Famicom, which makes a whole heck of a lot more sense.

Unfortunately, the former caught on in the early days because the first dumps were distributed that way through piracy BBSes and such. It continues to exist because the most popular (and lowest quality) SNES organization tool still uses SMC.

I would ask that you guys use SFC, simply run "ren *.smc *.sfc" in your ROM folder, but I can't make people change.

Sorry, no go Byuu, as an emulation purist, i ONLY play sfcs dumped by the Super Magicom! :)

Tho I like the prototype "STARFOX 2" title graphic (left) much better:

How easy would it be to do a tile swap patch? Maybe change it to (c) 2017 Nintendo as well, so it's clear which version you have.

It's gonna be they next Ouya, just with a wood finish!

No, it's gonna be the best looking media/emulator pc ever! For only $250:

That looks way better than any Raspberry Pi case, just look at it!

I think half the problem is the entitled plug and play generation. :)

It's out, Christmas came early this year!

A visor mod for Metroid (or Super Metroid), like this:

(that's a screenshot from "Cosmic Spacehead")

Or like this, that's from the Duke 3D beta:

To mimic the later Metroid games, such as "Metroid Prime":

Sounds like a job for Psyklax!

Sorry Psyklax :)

I'm surprised nobody hacked HUNTER X HUNTER into a Castlevania game yet, or at least translated it!
A Castlevania clone for the GBC by Konami released in Japan only, has a proper whip and everything:

Looks & sounds promising!

Will you include the cigar restoration by SCD?

"This hack restores the missing cigars back to Flip and the gorilla, they were taken out of the American version because of Nintendo of America’s guidelines."

Gaming Discussion / Re: If there ever was a N64 mini.....
« on: September 06, 2017, 09:51:43 am »
Frankly, N64 emulation isn't that bad, unless you are a purist, most games are playable perfectly fine. I think this is one of those persistent emulation urban myths, like that bsnes requires a very powerful PC, when it doesn't at least since the core duo days. Or the one that Golden Eye is a good game. Which game do you want to play, but can't already?

You better read What's the best N64 emulator thread:

Edit: I predict we will see a handheld mini next year!

I thought Ghoul Patrol was the sequel. The universe is shattered!  ;D

There is also that unlicensed Chinese Genesis game called Ling Huan Daoshi (or Elf Wor in the header).
The game is strikingly similar to and uses the Zombies engine, though has a more eastern setting:

The Zombies team later went on to create Herc's Adventures (Saturn is the native and best port of that):

It's considered to be the in-official third game in the series, because of the very similar game-play and humor.

Edit: And great hack, Zombies The Sequel, good work! You can never have enough zombies.

I know this Snes9x fork works for F-Zero:

"F-Zero VS is an awesome emulator that gives multiplayer capability for the game, F-Zero. It's a custom build of SNES9X that constantly patches the game with player positions and other data. You can play locally or online with up to four players."

Two players F-Zero, for real!

Any idea on how to re-submit this then, so that it is compliant?

It's rather unique, hence i thought it would be allowed as it was.

That would really look awesome:

Newcomer's Board / Re: Is the current Tile Molester even worth using?
« on: September 02, 2017, 07:22:20 pm »
I haven't used it just because I don't want to install Java just to run it (and otherwise it's just those bloat these days).

You know Emulicious, the Java GB/GBC/GG/SMS emulator?
It has a 30MB standalone version with Java included/bundled!

You can use tile molester with that, just unzip into the same folder.

And start the program with a custom .bat:
Code: [Select]
start java\bin\javaw.exe -jar TileMolester.jar %*
But isn't "YY-CHR" the better choice? That was always my impression:

Gaming Discussion / Re: Why hasn't there been a Doom port to the NES?
« on: September 02, 2017, 06:57:50 pm »
Yes that was the question, i asked because the source code to "The Dark" is available for download.

Let's see then if has a "for those without skills" section! :)

Edit: You were right:
