So if you are on windows, go into a folder, click "View" at the top and make sure the box for "File extensions" is checked. Otherwise the file extensions will be hidden, which is probably why you can't remove the ".bin".

Has anything more happened with this? I especially like your title screen.

Screw the RPG's. How about a remake/ re-release of Rad Racer I and II?

Or you collapsed the Romhacking section.

Oops. Yeah, guess that's what I did. Sorry, didn't even notice that until you mentioned it. Thanks!

What happened to all the old categories and threads/ posts? Why? When? Are they accessible anymore? My favorite topic was the one about custom title screens. I'd like to read it some more. If this is the new forum format, sorry, but it sucks.

I don't know about the game's code, but I think someone formerly with Argonaut (was it Jez San himself?) said that Nintendo always owned the rights to the FX chip, responding to rumors legal issues with Argonaut's IP has been what kept SuperFX games off Virtual Consoles.

Well, it looks like they finally resolved those issues, since we are getting SF1 and 2 and Yoshi's Island. FX games on Virtual Console can't be far behind.

So I'm importing a euro model and will flash over a North American firmware once it's out. The only other option is to buy both and swap the guts, which won't be difficult. But I will NOT suffer that hideously ugly lavender and purple monstrosity a second generation, especially as both of my SNES systems are in either in a SuperFam chassis or a UK SNES chassis.

You probably don't have to do any of that. There weren't any differences on the US and EU NES Classics. I know the NES systems always looked the same in both regions, but they just used the US versions of everything, Ninja Gaiden instead of Shadow Warriors, Super C instead of Probotector II, with everything st NTSC speeds. I'm 99% sure the boards /software will again be identical for the SNES version, only with different shells. The Japanese versions are the only ones with different software, though the boards are identical, even down to saying NES Mini on the FC board.

Also, the SFC Mini has been announced:
Castlevania IV changed to Legend of the Mystical Ninja (sounds like Japan likes Goemon more than Castlevania)
Panel de Pon instead of Kirby's Dream Course (they really can't just hack the Tetris Attack title-screen after all these years)? Not that I don't think Kirby's Dream Course is a good game, and it's worth including for variety on the unit.
Fire Emblem 3 instead of EarthBound. I knew a FE game would replace something, but I expected it to replace...
Super Soccer instead of Super Punch-Out. I thought Super Punch-Out would be replaced on the Japanese console, since I hear Japan has almost no interest in Punch-Out, but Super Soccer doesn't seem like more than a generic sports game (even if it got like five installments in Japan).

You missed one. For some reason we get Street Fighter II Turbo and they get Super Street Fighter II.

It still says "Final Fantasy II" and "Final Fantasy III" on the carts. The carts don't care if it's the year 2017 or 3017. :P

Yeah, but they could simply hack new numbers on the roms' title screens, or just do how they did Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels and EarthBound Beginnings on VC. The electronic manual, launch screen and everything else call it SMB: Lost Levels/ EarthBound Beginnings, but the title screen says, SMB2/ EarthBound.

Push, Press- what's the difference? Don't they mean basically the same thing?

It also doesn't translate the game's subtitle "Super Dimension Fortress", which sort of defeats the purpose since that's the part whose meaning is harder to grasp (a lot more people can sound out マクロス than parse 超時空要塞).

http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2617/

Maybe just put Super Dimension Force in regular text above Macross? Maybe it would be fun to make a Robotech version too?

Also, you gotta change that "To start push" to "Push Start".

marioxb I liked your initiative, it's a shame that you did not share the patch, if you wish I did a Spanish version that might prove useful.

Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 2 (IPS).7z  :D

I like that one! I do like Crysta's version, but I rather like using the official English logo better. I think I'll mess with yours and see what I can come up with for an English version. I'll upload my patches probably tomorrow as well.

Nothing major, I just made updated English title screens for Kid Niki 2 and 3 for more consistency between them and the official American Kid Niki game. I started with the English title screen made for Crimental's Spanish translation for Kid Niki 2 and Proveaux's English translation of Kid Niki 3. I removed all Japanese text from part 2, replaced the numeral "3" in part 3 with the original Japanese "3" and added a translated subtitle. I also corrected the color glitches on both. Here are the before and after:

Anyone ever do a Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels NES title screen hack? I hate calling it SMB2J. I love the way Nintendo of America named the game.

Possible to mod NES Donkey Kong Classics into Donkey Kong Classics: Original Edition, meaning it's DK Classics (DK+ DK Jr.) with the added changes fo the Wii/3DS port, Donkey Kong: Original Edition?

It's a game that only came out in Japan on the Famicom.

16
Thank you. It actually may be easier than originally thought. I must have been thinking of Donkey Kong Land 3 (US version Super Game Boy, Japanese version GBC only). The English Konami games are black carts, but when played in SGB mode, don't have any SGB enhancements, unlike their Japanese counterparts. So maybe the stuff is still there and a flag just needs re-enabled?

17
I guess Pokemon yellow did this properly. Is there any way to have full backward compatibility with the Super Game Boy, as well as Game Boy Color? Specifically, the Konami GB Collection 1-4 games. They were collections of older Konami Game Boy games, with four games per collection. 4 of the games, which averages one per collection, were made specifically for the collection, and never had a stand-alone release on the original Game Boy (Guttang Gottong, Frogger, Yi-Ar Kung Fu and Antarctic Adventure. (Frogger is a different game than all of the other GB(A)(C) releases). The collections were released in Japan as Super Game Boy games, with special borders for the collection itself, as well as the games themselves. They were also colorized pretty well for Super Game Boy games. The only English releases were in Europe, but the Super Game Boy compatibility has been removed and replaced with Game Boy Color compatibility. The volume order has also been changed, as well as the tutorials removed.

My question is, would there be any way to "combine" these roms, so that if you played in "Super Game Boy" mode you'd get full compatibility and vice versa with "Game Boy Color" mode? All I'd want is the color and border information from the Japanese releases inserted into the English releases. Would something like this be possible?

18
Mostly true. But there are exceptions: cafe, Pokemon (though on my phone I can't make the accented "e".

19
You can probably take both a Japanese and English rom and create an ips with the differences.

I always thought about doing something like this but I wasn't sure if these games broke canon or not with their content.

Probably, but oh well.
