Hi elgarta,

I did the following:

- Delete the ISO folder and its contents and create a new one.
- Rip CD-1 with Cebix Tools
- Paste your new DAT files to "iso\FF7-1\FIELD" folder (overwrite all)
- psxbuild+fixup.bat

And it looks like it worked, I loaded the game with ePSXe with no problems.

Please update the download link of first post with the new DAT files (capital letters + new saved files). I'll try to insert them on my PC and see what happens. ¿Which emulator are you using?

It gives no errors, it just completes successfully.

Also, when I am opening and saving the .DAT files I. Makou Reactor, they don’t save. It doesn’t create a new file if I change the directory, or show an update file time/date if I overwrite the file.

Try the "Mass Export" option and see what happens:

PD: or try the following. Open a DAT file, modify anything in the dialogue, like typing a space and then deleting it. Save the file and see if that works.

So if I extracted an ISO patched with your patch, then recompiled the ISO again, it should just work.. Right? Have you ever seen a problem where it causes emulators to crash by recompiling the ISO even with no changes?

I don't know, never tried that. See what the command line says when you do it, if something goes wrong it should warn you.

Out of curiosity, what files are primarily edited in your patch? The FIELD .DAT files, Kernel.bin and Scene.bin I am sure, but what else?

Did you do any of the kernel extender patches?

I am not understanding why replacing a few field files causes the ISO to become unplayable.

My retranslation patch modifies the following files:

As a test, I did try recompiling the ISO using this method, but for some reason it doesn't work. The final file is unusable in any emulator.

I even extracted the files and recompiled it without any changes, and it would still cause error messages when loading. That is kind of peculiar.

The DAT files in the original game are in capital letters, and your files are sometimes in lowercase, maybe that is causing problems.

If that does not solve the problem, try to open the DAT files with Makou Reactor (latest version) and save them (no need to modify anything, just "Save as..."). I recommend this because you probably created these DAT files with an older version of Makou Reactor, which created wrong DAT files (wrong memory alignment). The problem was solved some years ago, so the latest version should create compatible files.

The best tools I know to work with the PSX version are "Cebix Tools":

First you need to install Python on your PC:

Then you need to add Python to the command line:

Then you need the correct ISO files which are:

Disc 3 (SCUS-94165): 659.561.952 bytes

That way everyone will be using the original game data to apply your patch. Once you have these ISO files, put them in the "iso" folder and rename the files to match this format (CUE files are mandatory):

In your case you only have to:

1 - Double-click the file "0-psxrip.bat". This will extract the contents of the ISO files.

2 - Replace the original DAT file with the modified ones (do this 3 times as there are 3 discs)

3 - Double-click the file "3-psxbuild+fixup.bat" to create the new ISO files.

I think that's all.

I'm a bit confused with how this works though. Touphscript is a program that I have to run by clicking on the .exe file and it asks me to dump or encode. I tried both and nothing happened. I never used this software before so I'm not familiar with how to see the script and to actually organize it in something like an excel or word file.  :-\
Can you help?

I think it needs to be executed in "admin mode". Put the touphscript folder inside the FF7 installation path. Also check the .ini file, you have to enable these options:

0 means disable, 1 means enable.

Hi there!
I'm currently working on an extensive analysis of the original FFVII, and I've been trying to recreate the original experience, with the best of my efforts, as faithfully as possible. This includes using the PSX version with the best possible translation of the original script. I've found a YT playlist using the R04c version of the translation on the PSX. The footage is perfect for the video, but I noticed numerous mistakes, including orthographic ones, left in the script.
I was told this was the best place to find help.
From this page alone, I understand there's a R07 version. Can someone help me out with what is the best translated script I can find today? What are the updates of these new translations? Is there a text dump out there? Is there footage of a full PSX playthrough without commentary that features a translation newer than the R04c one?

Latest PSX version is R04c. Unfortunately R07 is not out yet.

There's a bug with the robot hammer enemies in the Shinra Building (first time through). They give a "Scene 424", "Error Code: 32" "Data Error" message at the start of a battle.

I patched an original ISO of the US FF7 game and I'm using the Chaos version of the translation.

I know how to fix it, wait for the new release.

Hi! I am experiencing a sound error in this patch that I have confirmed is not present in the unpatched file. It occurs during the Jenova FMV in the Nibelheim flashback. It sounds like this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1M59DbXm2JxlMaXjay6B-V0Ke2or2LYlx/view?usp=sharing. Basically seems like a crackling sound because a sound effect can not play properly. This is occurring in Mednafen/Liberto Beetle but perhaps I could test in ePSXe if need be. I hope this helps and you can apply a fix.

EDIT: Ignore the visuals in the link if it appears glitchy. That's some problem on Google's end. I am only talking about the sound.

I am aware of that sound problem and it will be fixed in the next release. I was using the wrong software and hence the weird sound.

Good to know, thanks! I wonder why the devs cut it in the first place... Still,thanks to the entire community for restoring it and working on a retranslation project, I wanted to translate the game into Russian, could I use this retranslated version as a starting point or should I use the original one?

Ideally you should use the Japanese as a base. If that is not possible, wait for R07 to be out as it includes hundreds and hundreds of improvements in the translation.

Hi all,

I am not dead, in fact I have been working and improving a workflow to insert the new translation into the PSX. Most of the errors and bugs you reported were caused because I was using old and bad tools, but now I use Cebix Tools which are excellent and the resulting ISOs will work on real hardware.

That being said, I am planning to create new patches which will include some nice and new options, like:

   Beacause
   Beacause + Chicago font
   Beacause + Hard Mode
   Beacause + Chicago font + Hard Mode

   Beacause Canon Addendum
   Beacause Canon Addendum + Chicago font
   Beacause Canon Addendum + Hard Mode
   Beacause Canon Addendum + Chicago font + Hard Mode

That will imply a lot of work from my side, but I will try my best. It looks like Burnt Lasagna is not active so I will take care of the Canon Addendum from now on. The Chicago font is not an important update, but I really like this font and it's like playing a new game:





Regarding the Hard Mode, I will use this hack from GalenMyra, who is also inactive but the patch is there and I will implement it to offer a new and challenging playing mode.

What do you think?
