Hey man. I would go for it! I would like to check out the double dragon hack you did. Do you have ips patches anywhere for download for these games? The more the merrier I say!  :thumbsup:

Looking good JRIVA~!  :thumbsup: Is this from a beta version?

Yes, actually; it's an expanded NEStroid ROM that has roughly 384 kilobytes, but still has an MMC1 mapper. That, plus some unpolished ASM that is the reason why I'm recreating it from scratch. The issue isn't that it can't run in NEStopia though; it technically can run the ROM and goes past the titlescreen. It's just that after the Samus fade in sequence, it resets back to the title screen. Hopefully, this will be fixed by the time it releases, seeing as Rogue Dawn apparently runs fine on that emulator.

Ahh OK nice to hear!  :thumbsup: So basically it will most likely work soon in NEStopia in the future while you rebuild from scratch? And yea, Rogue Dawn does work well in NEStopia. This is an awesome project man, I am excited to try it out! :cookie:

Hey Danny This looks awesome!  :thumbsup: I am just now seeing this.

I had one question, do you know why this does not work in Nestopia? Is it because it needs an oversize mapper to work or something. Some romhacks will not work in nestopia because the prg is for example hardcoded to like 256kb for a certain mapper, and if the rom is expanded to use 512kb of prg then it will blackscreen in nestopia.

Just wondering if this is something like that in this case? Is the rom expanded in any way?

Nice work ShadowOne! I've been following this for quite some time. This is def Zelda II the way it SHOULD have been :thumbsup:

How often do you update the beta on page 1? I might grab the next one once you upload the current changes!  ;D

Sure man! Nestopia for the most part will play hacks, translations, with no problem but back around 1.37 i think it was basically changed that certain mappers were moved to the database.xml file exclusively for some reason and you needed to supply the pin wiring info, etc.

The mapper Ganbare Goemon Gaiden 2 is on is one of those mappers. The database.xml has a bunch of crc's attached to those games on those mappers. If you play the original unmodified game then it is fine, but when you apply the patch to the game it alters the crc and when you go to load the game it will throw the unsupported mapper error because the crc's do not match. The mapper is obviously supported, so basically after patching the rom, if you add an entry into the xml file for it with the correct info, when the game loads it will find the crc and work correctly.

This is the reason why ALOT of the konami famicom games especially throw that error. It's pretty silly. Easy to add, but silly nonetheless, at least to me.

Let me know if that makes sense.  ;D

Nice! Just edited the nestopia database.xml file and got this working nicely with nestopia! Plays and looks great! Thanks so much! Gonna sit down and sink my teeth into this one!  ;) :cookie:

Thanks for the response and for the good work. This is me obviously being way too pedantic but I figured I'd ask in the vein of this project like the msx version.

Is it possible to change the wording of "rank" to "class" and the life bar red with the white lines around it? I noticed it is something in the msx version and figured I would ask if it is possible.

Obviously those are very minute details but I figured no harm in asking. Thanks again for your time on this! I'm loving it!  ;D :cookie:

Nice!  ;) :thumbsup:

Thank you for all the work you have put into it! Anything is appreciated! Are you pretty much done with this for now or is this the final release? I'm sure I speak for many when I say this is going to be awesome to go back and play this game closer the way it should have been.

I tried it, but it still does not run in Nestopia. Mb I do something wrong. Original ROM parameters:
        <cartridge system="Famicom" dump="ok" crc="49123146" sha1="D43D51E63AB14F5DEB38FD2C393E7550705675B4">
            <board type="KONAMI-VRC-2" mapper="23">
                <prg size="128k" />
                <chr size="128k" />
                <chip type="Konami VRC II">
                    <pin number="3" function="PRG A1" />
                    <pin number="4" function="PRG A0" />
                    <pin number="21" function="CHR A10" />
                    <pin number="22" function="CHR A16" />
                    <pin number="23" function="CHR A11" />
                    <pin number="24" function="CHR A13" />
                    <pin number="25" function="CHR A14" />
                    <pin number="26" function="CHR A12" />
                    <pin number="27" function="CHR A15" />
                    <pin number="28" function="NC" />
Please tell what you changed except prg size.

Hi, i had to actually update the board code in nestopia and recompile. First, you have to change prg to 256kb in board.h for this mapper. Then rebuild.

Next, you have to add a line in your xml file to this:

<game>
        <cartridge system="Famicom" dump="ok" crc="0889a5b1" sha1="fde83b67ae810efdcf233048a878bfc125fc69ae">
            <board type="KONAMI-VRC-2" mapper="23">
                <prg size="256k" />
                <chr size="128k" />
                <chip type="Konami VRC II">
                    <pin number="3" function="PRG A1" />
                    <pin number="4" function="PRG A0" />
                    <pin number="21" function="CHR A10" />
                    <pin number="22" function="CHR A16" />
                    <pin number="23" function="CHR A11" />
                    <pin number="24" function="CHR A13" />
                    <pin number="25" function="CHR A14" />
                    <pin number="26" function="CHR A12" />
                    <pin number="27" function="CHR A15" />
                    <pin number="28" function="NC" />
                </chip>
            </board>
        </cartridge>

Leaving prg at 128 will still make the game black screen in nestopia. Note where i changed it to 256. Let me know if you still cant get it. I got it work this way and work really well.

Too bad it doesn't run on Nestopia. Does it run on an everdrive? I assume the nestopia problem is some special chip issue, needs an entry in NstDatabase.xml. Only a blank screen comes up when trying to use the same entry for the original unpatched. Anyone know what the parameters for this ROM are, or better yet a custom NstDatabase.xml entry?

It is because the rom has been expanded to use 256kb of prg. You will have to update board.h for the mapper to use it. (Since at the moment its currently 128kb) and then you will need to make an xml entry and point the game by crc to use 256kb prg. That's how I was able to get it to run. But this is technically not accurate as by nature it only should be 128kb. This would most likely not run on a real nes I think.

After doing the above, nestopia will happily run this game. I was playing it last night actually.

EDIT** Figured out my issue. Thanks for all the hard work on this classic gem.  :)

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Zelda 2 FDS Translation
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:48:27 am »
Really? I patched 2.3 to a clean rom and it works perfect. For nestopia you cannot patch 2.2 or the emulator will show it as corrupt rom.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Dracula II FDS translation question
« on: September 08, 2017, 10:19:38 pm »
Does anyone know if Dracula II for FDS was ever translated? I think a long time ago there was a site (back in 2010) but has been quiet since.

If anyone knows where to find this translation or any info on any other attempts to do so i would appreciate it.

 Dracula II noroi no Fuuin has different music and other things that separates itself from the US castlevania II NES counterpart. And before anyone asks, yes, i know about Bisqwits re-translation of the castlevania II game.

This is NOT a request for someone to do it to be clear.
