Title: Site: Blue Monkey Theme Added
Post by: RHDNBot on January 29, 2008, 07:06:09 pm
Update By: Nightcrawler

A new theme was added to the site entitled Blue Monkey. This theme was based on a concept Demi had for another site which inspired me to do an adaptation for our site. Thanks goes to Kiyoshi Aman for creating some new graphics since we didn't have permission to use the ones from the original concept design. Thanks also to Killa B and Spikeman for some assistance with other aspects of the adaptation. I think it came out looking pretty nice. :)

For those of you that may be clueless, ROMhacking.net is available in 9 different themes, which are selectable right here on the main page via the drop down box! It still amazes me how many people come here and don't know these features exist. So, feel free to try it out. To anybody who may have their own better ideas of how the site should look, perhaps you might be interested in making your own theme?

Note: BlueMonkey utilizes PNG files w/ transparency, which means IE6 and prior will choke on it.

Not bad, but a little bright. I'd tone the blue down a notch or two, but that's me.

And by "another site," he means "The Whirlpool."

Yeah, the blues should definitely be less bright.

And the blue color it loads before any of the graphics are loaded is annoying too, way brighter than any of the others.

Good stuff, though. If it were less bright, I'd use it for my default theme.

Reload if you're using this theme. I found a few problems and fixed a few things up.

Those of you who mentioned the blues being bright... Now that's helpful being that the whole thing is blue to some degree. :P How about giving a specific or two and what you would recommend? What are you referring to?

DarknessSavior, you posted in the development topic for this theme, you couldn't have said something then? :P

Gomen, I didn't keep track of the topic and forgot about it until now.

It's not all of the blues that are bright, there's a nice dark blue in the theme that really fits. But some of the lighter blues are quite bright and unpleasing to the eye. >.>

On the site? On the board? Graphics? What? If it's graphics, you'll have to make something better and present as it's not like I could even if I wanted to. If it's one of the solid colors, that I can potentially do something about. Of course, you can also just fix up some of the CSS you think should be fixed and present that.

Anyway, nothing can be done without any specifics...

Whatever you did seems to have fixed the problem. Hey, there's a background! :D

The problem was that the spiffy background wasn't being loaded, and instead was a brighter blue background. That is now gone. Problem fixed.

I personally don't think there's any brightness issues, but then again, I'm the one who did the graphics work, so... :P

if anything it's much darker than the default theme, but that isn't a bad thing.

Sorry, I was quite tired and doing tons of stuff at once this morning.

Odd, I checked it again, and what I was talking about is gone. One of the solid colors for the board was a bright blue, and my eyes disliked it. But now it's not there. >.>

It's great. I'll certainly be using it now. ^_^

Oh, I do have one issue, and that's with the textarea, input, select and quotebox colours; they don't go well with the theme, and in fact the quotebox in particular clashes.

Unfortunately, that does not work in IE. Flawed as IE's rendering engine may, there are many circumstances in which font specs (font-size, to be precise) ds not trickle down from html{} and body{}.

Firefox handles it properly, regretfully the majority of the Internet is still married to IE.

I've added the changes, but I'm not sure it's an improvement... The dark gray kind of looks out of place too.  I prefer the lighter color.

Any other opinions on this?

As for the font issue. That's product of the board CSS. I have only added to it or changed colors. Most of the rest of the CSS was already there and typically I've found it has had purpose of some sorts. Purposes similar to what (wraith) mentioned.

ooh, this theme is pretty sexy :3

I think I'll use it for a while.  I didn't even know that the site had themes... haha!
