In the ROM Hacking community there has been a lack of utilities and documents for hacking next generation systems (psx, n64, ps2). This new simple psx emulator has great compatibility and support. It also has debugging utilities. The author is also working on PS2 support which would be awesome. Check out this shot of FFVII running.

This is great and I was hoping I could use this on DQM and DQIV but it seems that I get a "Unable to initialise D3D" error when opening the emulator. Any ideas about this. I updated to the latest version of DirectX 9.0c and still. I think its just my crappy internal video card.

Did you check the trouble shooting of the ReadMe? (which I assume it has)

hell, there's a link on the emulators main page. :) http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html

If you have a japanese bios it works pretty well.

I got the proper Direct3D .dll installed, but now it just crashes out during startup... It gets as far as "Pad=0", and that's it.

I tried it on a friend's PC though and it ran very well.  Sounds are a little off and Valkyrie Profile hung at the map screen (the author's looking into this), but Chrono Cross and Grandia both looked very nice.  My friend insisted that Chrono Cross was running smoother than on an actual PSX.

That emu is great, but does it have any special debugging features? I just wonder why we have a news here.

Yeah it has debug stuff that's why I posted it. Otherwise emulators are not news.

Thats good to hear, most PSX emus have  little to none debugging options, its not a surprise there are only very few psx translations ongoing.
