Title: The Game Music Thread
Post by: Spooniest on July 04, 2021, 02:58:24 am
For posting links to Game Music that you're currently listening to.

Fighting Through The Darkness - Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiLLN5U9w2U)

This was 10x as badass as it had any right being in 1993. People have many opinions about Victor Ireland's USA changes to games but this one is a solid touchdown and extra point. I might not have remembered this game the same way if not for this great version of the intro song.

Does this thread include covers or just original VG OST's?

I'm certain we had one of these threads already. But it must have gotten shuffled off into Never-Never Land.

I distinctly recall stating that Set The World Aflame is far better than Mighty Switch Force 2 could ever really deserve.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaLpzyw4q3w

Tragically, it seems to have been co-opted by a rather profoundly silly meme, to put it mildly, so there's no chance it will show up at the local karaoke bar.

I'unno, I didn't think terribly hard about this thread

One of the many things that made Deus Ex (2000) a memorable experience was the soundtrack. Whenever an ost reaches legendary status, you can sure bet dedicated fans will eventually give their own take on these tunes.

Among the many quality remixes dedicated to Deus Ex that I’ve gathered over the years, one composed by Maraiba stands among my "Top 20 Videogame Remixes of all time". What this guy can do with a Xaphoon is truly phenomenal. Not only his rendition of "Deus Ex NYC Streets" is quite Jazzy (which makes it stand out from other Deus Ex covers even more), but also I like listening to this track because it's such a soothing experience:

Deus Ex - NYC Streets [Chillwave Cover] Mairiba (Youtube) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGSuenLGJfM)

Here’s the original NYC Streets track from Deus Ex, so you can measure the incredible work which went into this cover:

Amazed it hasn't been taken down but the NEO: The World Ends With You demo has some good music.

Here's my favorite song from the demo. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JKGFNtmLkM)

It's nice, but it's kind of indistinguishable from most of the soundtrack of the original. (Which was a pretty darn spiffy soundtrack, to be sure.)

The Sexy Brutale is one of my favorite games of all time, hugely underrated and has a great soundtrack that kicks all kinds of ass. I've been replaying the game lately and listening to the music on Youtube while I work.

Journey to Silius (NES). It never ceases to amaze me, it feels like the NES has no business sounding this good without extra sound chips. But this is what it can do in expert hands.

I was testing out RTX performance on a GeForce 2070 Super I own and ended up getting Ghostrunner: I've been listening to the soundtrack (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT2AmusBlCs) more than I've been playing the game, though the game itself is actually really good too.

I dunnno what possessed me but this morning I have the BattleToads+Double Dragon Stage 1 Theme running through my head : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hqZ6Gb-J-s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hqZ6Gb-J-s)

Sounds a bit like Living Loving Maid, which, of course, I'm down to clown. It's got this weird chill vibe to it that is also good for smashing some baddies. :) Always liked this one.

I discovered only yesterday - through a Youtube comment  ::) - that FF9 pandemonium song is a mere remix of FF2 pandemonium song. Somehow the melody is well hidden in organ chords, and because it's played twice slower it makes it much less noticeable.

I stumbled across Tim Follin's Pictionary soundtrack.
It's one of the best pieces of chiptune I've ever heard, and one of the best things to ever come out of the NES soundchip period even.

https://youtu.be/DzTDAgG4EXk

I just love that Tim basically threw up his hands and is like, fuck it, I'm gonna shred, don't care what game.
So you basically end up with this hilariously incongruent mix of these absolute banger tracks playing over NES Pictionary of all things.

Not in-game per-se, but the Hylics 2 extended soundtrack Moonage Lobotomy is fantastic stuff, my favorite being Wayne's theme Endless Cycle, it's sort of got psych space rock vibes, which is fitting considering the vibe of the game.

(Is there anyone here who is interested in these lengthy lists? Or is that a question that mustn't be asked?)

I had said that PresidentLeever whom keeps posting them, yet has stated clearly that they don't listen to video game music, might honor us with an explanation

But y'know I can make threads but it's not like I'm in charge around here. I don't want to speak out of turn.

I've tried the whole "unabashed unvarnished unfiltered opinion" thing at RHDN before and was asked to be quiet and not make waves. So that's what I'm doing.

EarthBound's music was ahead of its time.

EarthBound's music was ahead of its time.
It really is! Sometimes I dream of learning the double bass just to play Battle Against an Unsettling Opponent.

I wish this video had a better view of whoever is playing the bongos.

I did find this cover just now while trying to find that other one.

Also, I think it's tragic these people don't have ten times as many views.

Right now, I'm listening to "Battle Demon", the theme of Boomerang Flash from Wild ARMs for the PlayStation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCXN4cqW6d0

It was a pain to find this video, since most uploads of the tune are of the almost-unrecognisable remixed version from the game's PlayStation 2 remake. :P
