Title: Geki, Retsu, Lee, Joe and Mike.....100% at last!
Post by: sil3nt_j on July 17, 2019, 04:05:11 pm
Last updated: 1/22/2021

Retsu is almost complete and has 5 specials now. Also, I was looking at some different characters to use for voices. Here's what I recommend:

Mike -  Heavy D
Retsu - Goro, from King of Fighters
Geki - Kenji, Capcom Fighting All Stars
Joe - Galford, Samurai Showdown, Ralf / Clark from King of Fighters, or his old voice effects from SF1
Lee - Nicotine, Samurai Showdown

For those who haven't seen it, here's Lassard's Retsu.

EDIT
12/30/2020

I think this is great way to end this year. Glad it is over. This year has fucking sucked. Geki is 100% now:
Thanks for all of the views so far.

Those are fantastic!!
Having an Alpha version of street fighter 1 has been a pipe dream of mine for years.
I know there are some MUGEN projects that remake SF1, but they use the original graphics.
Damn! I wish I know how to use MUGEN right now.

There is a Street Fighter One using Mugen, with these sprites can change a lot.

Maybe an update to that MUGEN project with the Alpha sprites as alternate costumes would be pretty cool to do.

I guess that begs the question if MUGEN games can be edited or if you need the project files.

i love the new style, this wll be good for new remake sf 1, along with updated movelist, stage layout, and add super combos at least one or two, then it will be hit !

Ha, well thanks people, glad you liked it. I spent a lot of time on these. Was thinking if SF1 couldn't be hacked, maybe SFA3 could be... just a thought. I still have a lot to do on the characters, but here's some ideas for their moves:

EDIT 12/16/2020

I've updated the moves:

==========================================================================================
LEE
==========================================================================================

SPECIALS
--------------------------------------
Won Ton Kick - Charge Down, then Up + K: Similar to Gambit's Cajun Escape. Lee jumps into the air while spinning forward. The player is able to control which direction he goes by pressing the direction on the controls. This allows Lee to either jump straight up or bounce off of the walls. If a kick button is pressed, he does a downward kick. If not, he just keeps spinning until he lands.

Spring Roll - Quarter circle back + P: Lee rolls forward and then does a punch, the roll gets hits too.

Hunan Punch - Quarter Circle Motion Forward + P: Lee does a dashing punch similar to Terry Bogard's burning knuckle. This counters both standing and crouching attacks. This was his main move in SF1.

Peking Duck - Zig Zag forward + K: Similar to Kim Dragon's anti air from World Heroe's, except he is not engulfed in flames. This is Lee's anti air.

SUPERS
--------------------------------------
Kung Pao Special
- Double QCF + P: This is like a kick version of Ken's Shoyrureppa. Lee rolls forward and kicks 1-3 times in a row, depending on the strength of the button pressed.

Chop Suey:
- Double Half Circle Back + K
Lee dashes forwards and attempts to grab the opponent. If he connects, he does his throw and stomps on them 2-4 times, depending on the strength of the buttons used.

==========================================================================================
MIKE
==========================================================================================
*Note:
For Mike, I was thinking about simplifying his move commands to make him very easy to use.

SPECIALS
--------------------------------------
(See sprite sheet)

The only move command I would change is for the Yamazaki type punch that stays stationary and hits different angles. Instead of doing the QCF motion, I would maybe change it to: back, forward, back + Punch or forward, back, forward + punch. A move name could be, "Fast Fist" or "Whip Punch" or "Rushmore Whip"

SUPERS
--------------------------------------
Rushmore Beatdown
- Double Quarter Circle Forward + Punch: Mike Dashes at the opponent while doing straight punches and uppercuts.

Missile Punch
- Double Quarter Circle Back + Punch: Mike takes a couple seconds to rear his hand back, then does an unblockable punch that sends the opponent flying if it hits. This move can be charged for more damage by holding the punch button. Can only be done with 3 super bars.

==========================================================================================
GEKI
==========================================================================================
SPECIALS: (See sprite sheet)

SUPERS:
---------------
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Arashi
Zigzag forwards twice + Punch
- Geki throws 1-3 sets of three stars horizontally at opponent, depending on the strength of the button pressed. If it connects, the stars stick to the opponent and then fall off, similar to Gambit's "Royal Flash." If it connects, Geki laughs afterwards.

Air Arashi
Double Quarter Circle backwards + Punch
- Same as the ground version, except now the stars are thrown downwards.

Ansatsu
- Double Quarter Circle Backward + Kick
This is Geki's version of the Maximum Spider or Gen's diving kick super (forgot the name at the moment). Geki jumps up into the corner of the screen and then dives down to do a high speed kick. If it connects, the opponent is hit with several more flying kicks from different directions.

==========================================================================================
JOE
==========================================================================================

SPECIALS
-------------------
Split Punch: Down, Down, Down + P
Joe does the splits and hits the opponent in the groin. Must be blocked low. Debating on whether to have the opponent re-act by being pushed back as if they have been hit in the stomach or by being frozen in place and bent over.

Box Car Kick: Charge back, forward + Kick
Similar to Joe Higashi's kick from Fatal Fury. Joe does not travel in a straight line, but in an arc in order to convey the appearance that he's actually jumping forward. The strength of the button pressed determines how far he travels. If it connects, the opponent is knocked back about 3/4 of the screen.

Upper Box Car Kick: Charge down, up + Kick
This is his version of the flash kick and main anti air. The strength of the button pressed determines how high diagonally upward he goes.

Punch Combo: Press punch rapidly
This is his version of Joe Higashi's rapid punch move. If it connects, it creates sort of a vacuum effect as the opponent is drawn in closer. The strength of the button pressed determines how many hits it gets, the final of which is an uppercut that knocks the opponent back about 1/2 the screen length. 4 hits for the LP version, 5 for the MP, 6 for the HP.

Dodge: Charge back, forward + P (not pictured)
Joe dashes forward while leaning to the side like the CvS characters do in the SNK groove. Goes through everything but does no damage. It's main function is to avoid and set up attacks. Also, the recovery is instant.

SUPERS
--------------------
Psychotic Conductor - Charge back, Zig Zag forward + Kick - Joe dashes forward, does his standing light kick, his standing middle punch, his standing middle kick, his punch combo (6 hits) and then does a number of Jumping spinning kicks (his classic spinning kick). The strength of the button pressed determines how many kicks he does. This goes through projectiles for the start up. It is similar to the super Takuma has where he dashes forward.

Trainyard Tornado - Double QCB + K - Joe does his jumping spin kick over and over again while moving vertically. The strength of the button pressed determines how many kicks he does. Similar to Ken's Shinryuken or Akuma's vertical hurricane kick super from MvC2.

==========================================================================================
RETSU
==========================================================================================
SPECIALS:
--------------
Rush Punch - Zig Zag Backward + Punch
Same as Gouken's dashing palm strike from SF4, it goes through projectiles. The only differences are the command and the fact that it is done with a closed fist. Was thinking of adding more moves to follow up with if the first one hits. The second hit would be an elbow strike to the sternum done with the opposite (rear) hand. The third hit would be a double palm strike to the face which is used in Kempo Karate as an eye gouge with the thumbs.

Kaunta - Half Circle Forward + any button
Retsu bends his knees and squats down slightly in the horse stance and does either a high block or low block. He holds this pose for a second. If hit during this time, he does a kick similar to Ken's standing middle kick from the Alpha series for the high counter, and one similar to his standing heavy kick for the low counter. If he is not hit, the kick still comes out and he does an unblockable strike with extremely slow start up and recovery. 5 of these can kill most characters. It can counter all basic attacks, supers and specials and can parry projectiles. The only things it can not counter are projectiles that hit multiple times or multiple projectiles. This is similar to the move Dan Has in SVC Chaos and the unblockables from the Tekken series. Punch versions do the high counter, kick versions do the low counter. The punch version is vulnerable to low attacks, the kick version vulnerable to high attacks, but only during the blocking animation. The punch animations are of Retsu doing a Karate high block. The kick animations are of a Karate low block. I wanted to pay tribute to the basic attacks in SF1 that did lots of damage.

Ryoku - Half Circle Backwards + any button
Retsu does a standing chop that goes down to about his waist. This is an overhead hit similar to Shingo's elbow move from KOF '98.

SUPERS:
--------------------
Kicking Line - Double quarter circle forward + Kick(s)

This move is similar to Ken's Shippa Jinrai Kyaku, except he doesn't leave the ground.

The strength of the button pressed determines how many kicks he does:
LK = 2 kicks
MK = 3 kicks
HK = 4 kicks

For the first kick, he takes a step forward and does a front kick to the body with his lead leg, for the second kick he does a side kick with the lead leg, the third kick is a crescent kick with the lead leg (Ryu's Alpha Standing Heavy Kick) and finally it is a shuffle side kick (Like Ryu's SF3 shuffle side kick). The final kick sends the opponent accros the screen if it connects but only hits in the level 3 version. It also bounces the opponent off the walls.

Earth Shattering Punch - Quarter Circle Forward x 2 + Punch
Retsu gets into the horse stance, raises his rear arm up, and then slams his fist into the ground, must be jumped or blocked low. If not, the opponent is lauched into the air and loses about a 4th of a lifebar. This can set up his Rush Punch or Kaunta. The strength of the button pressed determines the damage and how high the opponent goes into the air.

Ichi - Ni - San (one, two, three) - Quarter Circle Backward x 2 + Punch (similar to the Shin Shoryuken)

* Can Only Be Done at Level 3*

This is his version of the Shin Shoryuken. Retsu rears back with his lead hand and does a palm strike to the body, followed by a punch to the body with the rear hand, then an uppercut similar to Ryu's standing middle punch. After each hit he says, "Ichi!" "Ni!" "San!" If it misses he does a taunt where he bows his head and prays like his win pose from SF1. This is his best bet against grapplers.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Some ideas for voices:
Mike - Balrog
Lee - Cheng Sin Zan from Fatal Fury or Yang
Retsu - Jubei or Gaira from Samurai Showdown, or Goro Daimon
Geki - Hanzo from Samurai Showdown or Genjuro
Joe - Would just keep his voice effects from SF1, since he was the poster boy for that game, also for nostalgia, or if he really needed a new voice, maybe Galford

Damn me for being a "kinda" purist, but I think SF1 The Good Edition shouldn't have supers... yet I know if Capcom EVER did a SF1 remake, they would add supers.

Honestly, I don't think it really matters if they have supers or not. I would be okay with either. I think if they don't have them though, that their specials should do more damage or they could have V-ism mode or something.

On the subject of supers, they should be optional.
On the subject of new moves...

Lee should take some queues from Yun and Yang since they are his vrandkids or something.

Mike should definitely be similar to Balrog/Boxer.

And Retsu shouldn't have any specials as per his lore.

What I would do with Retsu is expand his command attacks so that be has a different normal for every direction you can press.
Every button on the ground and while crouching would have a different move for forward, neutral, and back.
Every button in the air would have a different move for up, neutral, down.
Of course some would be semi-specials like Dhalsim's drill moves or Ryu's overhead punch.
Hell come to think of it if you really want him to have command moves they could be like Ken's special kick moves in Super Turbo.

Post by: sil3nt_j on July 26, 2019, 11:26:44 am
I was thinking something similar Vanya. That's all his specials that I gave him really were. He had some karate counters and a couple of unblockable kicks, along with a move like Goro from SNK's where he punches the ground and the opponent goes flying.

What would be the purpose of having all of those normals, if you dont mind me asking?

As for Lee taking Yun and Yang's moves, I thought about giving him the rolling kick, or even Gen's rapid punch, but I was trying to make him his own character. Would we really need another Yun  / Yang? I was thinking he could be more of a comic relief character. He could be to Gen what Shingo is to Kyo. I was also thinking that for his voice effects, they could be funny and he could maybe have either Yang's voice or Cheng Sin Zan's from Fatal Fury 2.

Also, here is one last picture I had for this for right now. I'm about to be really busy, so I won't have a chance to work on this for a while.

Credit to Street Fighter Wikia for the backgrounds. I made a few fake screenshots of what this could look like, if it was ever made. Also, I updated Joe's sprite sheet (above) by adding in some move commands and explaining his specials:

Those mocks look great!!

I'm not suggesting that the characters take moves from other characters directly, but moreso that they suggest a relation to those other characters and maybe show a sort of progression in fighting style.

Consider that some of these characters already have established lore and maybe take that into consideration.

As for Retsu having every command normal possible, its a combination of his lore and tge idea that it hasn't ever really been done to that extreme before so he would be very unique especially if you give him a v-ism/custom combo type of super.
Hell, that would make him even more unique for being the only character with a super, but no specials.
It would be kinda like how Sean doesn't have a normal hadouken, but he does have a super one.
That basically all my thoughts on the whole thing with Retsu.

That's interesting Vanya. Idk, I think I still like the idea of him having specials and supers. Seems like it would be more effective, that way he could dish out more damage quicker.

Thank you to Gentleman Wrath of gamefaqs.com for these portraits. I don't have time to color them right now, but if someone else would like to, you are more than welcome. Also, I animated Geki and Lee's stances and added a get up animation for Lee.

This will be my last update for a while as I am about to be extremely busy.

Those do look great. As far as styles, this is what i think.

Mike - A balance between Balrog and Dudley styles

Lee - Goro Daimon would be a good style for him

Retsu - Similar to Lei Fei from Virtua Fighter 4 or Takuma from King Of Fighters

Geki - Similar to Kage from Virtua Fighter 4 or Hanzo from World Heroes 2 Perfect

Joe - A balance between Ralph and Clark from King Of Fighters

Nice, here's what I was thinking:

Mike - A cross between Balrog and Yamazaki. Yamazaki's serpent slashes with Balrog's dashing punches and a move like Cody's where he can lean out of the way. A more toe to toe version of Balrog.
Lee - A crazy drunk character who likes to jump and roll around. He has a dashing punch like Terry Bogard and a flying kick like Kim Dragon from World Heroe's. He can also do a rolling punch as a counter move and a move like the one Gambit has where he can bounce off walls.
Retsu - A counter based character with no projectiles or shotokan type moves. He has defensive counters for strikes and a rush punch like Gouken's to counter projectiles. He should NOT have any fire balls or hurricane kicks or dragon punches. We have too many of those already.
Geki - Strider's punches and Guy's kicks. He can also teleport and throw stars, sort of like Rolento's stinger move and he has a grapple move and a move where he can rush forward and do a jumping kick.
Joe - Sort of like Dee Jay but with no projectile.

But I want to try and make them their own character. I really don't want Retsu to be another shotokan or Lee to be a head swap of Gen and/or Yun/Yang.

Ok, I'm going to take on the challenge of finishing this thing up. I've just finished Lee's sprite sheet, I just need to add a visual description of the supers, but I can get to that later. Working on adding Joe's belt right now. Then I want to fine tune Mike. Then hopefully I can finish Geki, then Retsu (Retsu will probably take the most work).

1 down, 4 to go:

(https://i.ibb.co/gZFcb0P/Lee-2020-sprite-sheet.png)

speaking of Joe, fine tuned some of his sprites and tried to fix the walking, middle punch, and heavy kick animations as well as some of the shading... Was trying to wait until I completely finished the sprite sheet, but couldn't resist. I added the belt to most of the sprites today, hopefully I can have it done tomorrow. Just needed to add one more frame to the jump spin kick as well:

EDIT 10/22/2020

Almost done, just have the 8 sprites at the bottom to do. Lol adding this belt is time consuming, but I've also touched up a lot of the sprites as I've been going.

Hehe, and here it is. Joe 100% finished. Not to brag, but I have to say, I am pretty happy with the way this came out. I worked my ASS off on this. It would be cool to see him playable one day.

2 down, 3 to go:

On the topic of dream Mugen stuff, I'd like to see the roster of Alpha 3 Upper and some Street Fighter 3 characters added in the Alpha art style (Alex, Makoto, Dudley, Yang, Yun and Ibuki).

Lol well thanks man.

Yeah, my ultimate goal is to see SF1 finally remade. But if we can't have that just yet, maybe SFA3 with a few extra characters would be good. I mentioned the idea of a SF1 remake a while back and some loved it, and some said exactly what you did about just adding them to the Alpha 3 roster. Honestly, as long as they can give them a good stage (preferably an update to their SF1 stages) I'd be okay with that.

I know Yun was in Capcom vs SNK and one of the SFA3 games so he and Yang would be easy to add. And then we had Eagle in one of those games. So we could theoretically have Yun, Yang, Eagle, Lee, and Joe now. Also, there's Maki.
Title: Re: Retsu, Geki, Lee, and Joe, and Mike (Alpha Style)
Post by: Vanya on October 23, 2020, 10:39:18 pm
Eagle was Capcom vs SNK.
Really nice sprites, but like Ryu, Ken, and Bison, they were in a slightly different style. Similar to Alpha but more stiff/"mature" if that makes any sense.

There are already a couple of SF1 remakes for MUGEN, but they stick to the original graphics mostly.
My favorite one so far is the one that has Cody as secret character that can only be accessed via random select. An updated version of that with new graphics would be good enough to satisfy me since it has all the bells and whistles already.

I know Eagle debuted in Capcom vs SNK 2, but I remember very distinctively that he was also in a version of Street Fighter Alpha 3. I don't think they redrew him, they just cut and pasted him from Capcom vs SNK. Not sure what people thought about him and Maki being in that game:

I think so. People were saying they were over sized and I could see Maki and Yun being too big for the game. Idk, maybe Maki is big like Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke? Also I remember seeing a little bit of debate over Eagle and whether or not he was too big for the game. He was the same size as Ryu in SF1, but people were saying, maybe he's just tall? He's still shorter than Sagat, so maybe Eagle was around 6'8"?  Seems like of the CVS characters copied and pasted, he was the most believable.

Major update to Geki, still need to add the claw to a lot of these, but I would say he is about 50% finished. Special thank you to Shubuster for rippingthe Stirder sprite sheet and to T0misaurus for the Guy sprites. More to come, stay tuned, thanks for all of the views:

My only suggestion is to always make sure if you reuse any effects or graphics from other games that you treat them as a base and heavily edit them until they are mostly if not totally unrecognizable.
However, you're already doing that pretty damn well. :D

Well thanks man, I appreciate that, this has taken a long time to make. It's mainly Strider and Guy I've used. I've just realized that I forgot have any kind of throw sprites for him, so this is what I'm probably going to do for his throw, just because no other Street Fighter characters have it (credit to darkred88 for the jill sprites):

Last update 12/8/2020

At this point, Geki could technically be considered finished. He has all of his movements except for his throws, his jumping and crouching HP, and his kicks. Everything else is good to go. Hopefully he will be 100% by the end of the year, that's my goal. Also, wanted to perfect the standing star throw animation, if possible. I've added his special move descriptions. The specials and all sprites above them are good to go.

Coming along great as usual!

Here's my critique:

Tripped/Falling animation - In the initial frame his right leg is up higher than his left leg is, but in the next frame his right leg is positioned lower and then is higher again in the 3rd frame. This might make for a jarring/silly look with his leg flicking up and down.
Suggestion: either lower the right leg in the first frame, or raise it in the second frame for a more consistent animation.

Smoke Bomb - The effect seems like its way too big is all.

Everything else is pretty much great.
In particular I have to call out the command for the vertical shuriken throw. I really like this combination of command and special move. It's pretty unique and I think it would make him feel very interesting to play as.

In the original game Geki also has triple shuriken moves. If you want to keep those moves more traditional they could have the same commands as the normal moves, but instead you have to press all 3 buttons and they should probably use medium speed.

Post by: sil3nt_j on December 04, 2020, 02:26:48 pm
Ok, I will have to test that tripping animation to see what I can do. I just have to see it moving.

Yeah, I didn't like how big the smoke bomb animation was either, but haven't found any other smoke sprites I could use. I was wanting to use Ibuki's, but couldn't find a sprite sheet of her. I also saw that Demitri has a fire animation that could be recolored.

Were the triple shurikens that Geki had in the original game just downward, or did he throw them horizontally too?

December 04, 2020, 04:55:39 pm - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.)
I just looked at the getting knocked down animation, and I think I may just leave out the 2nd frame. Funny thing is, I added the first frame at the last minute for nostalgia, because that was from his first sprite sheet, just recolored.

Post by: Vanya on December 05, 2020, 03:25:33 am
The triple shuriken is both for the vertical version and the horizontal version.
I'm pretty sure that the horizontal one is 3 shuriken thrown one after the other.
Not sure how the vertical one is, let me check some play-throughs...
...OK! The vertical triple shuriken throws 3 in a very narrow spread from the middle angle.
Hope that helps!

Trying to figure out how to do the Shuriken throw move. For the jumping version, I was going to have it be thrown at different angles, depending on the button pressed, and maybe for the super have him throw 3. For the ground version, I was going to do the same thing.

OR

He could just throw 3 of them for both the jumping and ground versions. Then, depending on the strength of the button, he could throw either 1 set of 3 (Light Version), 2 sets of 3 (Middle Version), or 3 sets of 3 (Heavy Version).

Idk.

December 06, 2020, 11:11:18 am - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.)
And yeah, throwing them one right after the other could work too.

This is what I'm imagining would be his shuriken moves.

Shuriken Throw Ground:(B),F+P [LP fast, HP very fast]

Multi Shuriken Throw Ground: (B),F+PPP [3 consecutive shuriken, MP speed]

Shuriken Throw Air: (D),U+P [LP high angle, MP angle 45, HP low angle, all MP speed]

Multi Shuriken Throw Air: (D),U+PPP [Narrow spread of 3 shuriken, MP angle 45, MP speed]

Shuriken Barrage Ground: (B),F,B,F+PPP [3 consecutive narrow spreads of 3 shuriken each, 9 total, HP speed]

Shuriken Barrage Air: (DB),DF,DB,UF+PPP [3 Consecutive narrow spreads of 3 shuriken each, 9 total, MP angle, HP speed]

Just my two cents.

Thanks Shakanetsu.

Alright another update to Geki, finished his standing attacks, all he really needs now are his jumping attacks, his throw, and his crouching heavy punch and he is 100%.

Special thanks to Bonzai of Sprite Database for his Demitri sprite rips. I used them to help edit the smoke on the teleport move. Here's what I came up with for that and for the star throw. I've added these tot he sprite sheet as well:

And another update to Geki. Added his jumping attacks.
All that he needs now are the rest of his crouching attacks, his jumping and crouching HP, and his throw.
He's almost done.

Also, I was thinking for his teleport, maybe it can be down, down + any button, sort of like Shiki's from Snk vs Capcom Chaos.

Love the new smoke graphics!
I did notice a tiny bit of inconsistency in the animation when he reaches for and throws down the kemuri dama.
It's the edges of his gi that are a bit out of wack.
After the first frame, the left side of his gi is drawn overlapping the right and I think it's supposed to be the other way in order to be consistent with the rest of his animations throughout the sheet.
Actually now that I had a quick glance, there are a couple of spots where his gi swaps overlaps.

Great work on this, tho! I;m drooling for that SFA style remake of SF1 now.

Once this dream comes true, I might seriously consider working on another idea I had for prequel to SF. ;)

Woo! Finally got all of the original sprites finished. All that's left are the crouching and jumping heavy punches, and the throw, and he is 100%. Tried to fix the gi as well, so that there is consistency:

(see below)

Idk if I will have time to make Retsu, but I would like to finish him. Just in case I'm not able to for some reason though, there was a gentleman named Lassard that actually made him. Even though I don't agree with all of the choices for the specials, I will say he looks very well done:

You might want to add some unique style of mechanic to Geki.

Like in Dragoons Might

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6-TODVCYY4

Where the characters can flip in air or hang in air.

Since he had a knife

He can also like have those mechanic by using the knife to the ceiling just like Strider hanging in the ceiling

I think Geki is pretty unique in fighting style to begin with compared to most other characters and definitely when compared to Strider/Guy/Ibuki+Vega, and you did a great job of preserving and enhancing that.

I liked the Ibuki smoke effects and wanted to use them, but I couldn't find sprite rips of them any where. The specials and supers you mentioned for her are good too, I just don't have the sprites. As for Geki,

Added these to the sprite sheet as well as the crouching HP:

Nice, I thought I was the only Virtua Fighter fan left. But yeah that's a good idea, maybe the Ichi Ni San super can take the animation of the elbow strike, body palm strike (standing), and shoulder thrust. Was thinking the move where Retsu goes through projectiles and punches could be like the Akira dashing palm strike move. Maybe it can have a half circle back command too, to make it different from Gouken's version.

Well.... I finally finished Geki. My goal was to finish him by the end of the year and I did it. Hell yeah! I've added these to the sprite sheet. I don't think I'm going to add any more to him because he was a tough character to make. There was a lot of detail on him and the Wolverine and Jill sprites were really hard to edit because they looked nothing like him.

Just finished these, and I have to say, I am pretty happy with the way they came out and with the way the sprite sheet came out. Hope to see him playable soon:

Thanks. Was going to wait until tomorrow to post this, but couldn't resist -- big update to Retsu: Added the shock sprites and the rest of the damage sprites to the sprite sheet, added his jumping jab and heavy kick, added a slit to the pants in the walking sprites. The only basic movement he still needs is his jumping middle punch, but I'm almost done with that:

(https://i.ibb.co/tCKJWhn/retsu-update-1-13.png)

Hee hee, and here is his last jumping basic attack. So he has all of his basic movements now. I've added those to the sprite sheet and updated the move commands. I might update the commands to the other specials too. As of right now, he has 2 specials, a super, and all of his basic attacks, ability to take damage, get shocked, get knocked down, turn around, block.

Next up, his throws, then his defensive counters:

I was watching some old Virtua Fighter videos of Akira and looking at some of his move commands from the first game, and thought this would be good move to give him. I don't mean for it to be cheap, but just thought it would be a good way to counter some of the moves most characters can't counter like Chun Li's head stomp and Zangief's grapples. It's not really something we've seen very often in 2D games. I was thinking Retsu could be like a cross of Makoto and Akira Yuki -- a hard hitting character with counters and palm strikes and elbow strikes:

Thanks to those that have liked the sprites so far and to everyone for the views. Well, I found out I might not have as much time to work on this as I thought so I made a temporary change to the defensive counters just until I am able to work on the Roundhouse Kicks (If I am able to). There are a t least three more animations I would like to give him though: An intro, a front kick, his front sweep. I hope I have time to make them. Here are his defensive counters though. I've added these to the sprite sheet as well:
