Rusty is a Castlevania homage for the PC-98, and a pretty solid action game on its own. You play as the titular Rusty, the green-haired lady in leather, as she battles her way through Transylvania against monsters and the forces of evil.

As in the contemporary Castlevania games, you can whip enemies and use special attacks you pick up, and fight massive bosses at the end of each stage. But unlike Castlevania, the level design is quite open, and there's a lot to explore, and plenty of secrets to find...

This is 46 OkuMen's second release, following last year's E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution translation.

We hope you enjoy it.

One small note: PC-98 emulation is far from perfect at the moment so we recommend using np21.exe from the np2fmgen pack to play the game.

I applied the patch to the HDI image I've had for years and have been running it under T98-Next with no issues so far (Up to the second level as of now).

Pretty nice work. Thanks for doing it.

This was also released on the MS-DOS in case you wanna add the same translation patch to that version as well and for those who are still having trouble with Neko Project II emulator

Unfortunately applying our patch to the DOS version is a non-trivial task. The assembly hacks we did to get half-width ASCII characters to show up are not applicable to the DOS version of Rusty, so we'd basically be starting from scratch with the work involved. This means that we won't be transferring our translation over to that version as we figure our efforts are better directed towards other games.

Hey, could you PM me your log file? It should be in the same directory as the patcher, with the name "rusty-patch-log.txt" or something similar.

Edit: If anyone is having trouble with the patcher while we're trying to fix various issues with it, you can grab some plain xdelta patches here (http://46okumen.com/projects/rusty/). They're listed as "Rusty Mac/Linux Patches."

I noticed in the screenshot that the girl's name is "Rustea Sprinkul" ... Is that a romanization of "Rusty Sprinkle"..?

Sprincul, like Dracul. The Japanese used there has an elongated 'u' sound that lead us to believe the old fan romanization of the name was probably not accurate.

Edit: If anyone else is experiencing the same issue as ajinbod above, it is possible that your Rusty image is set to read-only. In which case, you'll need to right click on the file, go to Properties, untick the Read-Only checkbox towards the bottom, then click Okay. Once you've done that, try the patch again.

Edit #2: We just released v1.0.1 on our site (soon to be added to RHDN) that should handle a lot of the issues that have come up with the patcher. Go to the project page listed in the first post here to grab it if you were having problems. Keep us posted if you're still having issues!

Are the speech samples supposed to sound terrible? The rest of the audio sounds mostly alright. There is some noise, especially the map screen. I've tried messing around with Neko Project's sound options, but most of it had no discernable effect. Does anyone know if there are any better than default settings for sound?

I found no youtube video with the speech samples turned on but I did find one with noticibly better audio than what I get.

The voices in Rusty are the one thing that we never got to work properly in NP2. They always crackled no matter what settings we tried, just like what you're running into now. If you really want the voices to work, the only emulator we've found to accurately and clearly output them is Anex86, though using that emulator comes with its own set of problems (it being horribly outdated and doesn't run that well for a large number of things).

Tradeoffs with either choice, but those are your general options.

I know right. It sucks that there's not an emulator that can do it all.
