Title: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands
Post by: hattontown on April 22, 2013, 07:40:16 am
Hey everyone- my programming partner and I are actively pursuing a 100% localization of Survival Kids 2. (This may or may not include images, but any text in the images is not necessary for full enjoyment of the game.) I loved Survival Kids, so when I saw a preview for Survival Kids 2 in a video game magazine when I was a kid, I was psyched. Sadly, as you know, it was never translated. I waited for an adequate patch or guide, but none surfaced, and I realized that if anyone was going to do it- it would have to be me. I have now lived in Japan for a year-and-a-half, and in addition to working full time I have been studying Japanese. I am finally able to understand the original game and look forward to completing the translation with my programming partner.

Please note that hiragana is very compact compared to English. This means that even though I might understand the original Japanese, it simply will not fit into the space provided in English. As such, the localization will value meaning and player enjoyment over direct translation. It is possible that I may also release a PDF of screenshots and the English translation, but no promises.

There is no release date. I promise that we will release the fully translated and tested patch neither late nor early- but only precisely when we mean to :) My teammate and I both have other full-time jobs, but work on this when time allows.

These screenshots are NOT representative of the finished patch and may change, particularly to maintain parallel wording (in menus, for instance) with Survival Kids.

That's what I'm thinking when doing translations. Fitting texts in limited text space is always a challenge.
Btw, does your pardner know any DTE? Most advanced hack-translators know about it.

@Zynk Oxhyde: I do, but so far haven't found it necessary; there are globs of unused space in the ROM to point to. For instance, the menu screen stats now look like this...

(Incidentally, the first game's English translation used a single letter for each stat instead, like 'L' for Life, so I think we're doing pretty good).

Beautiful! I loved the first game and since the DS-Sequels are rather boring and pushed the franchise into a wrong direction (imo), the faithfull GBC sequel really needs a translation!
Looking forward to more updates  :woot!:

He might mean the 'screen' space, not exactly the 'rom' space.

Hey everyone- thanks for the support. Again, no promises regarding a release but I will work as quickly as I can. It's been a heck of a journey just to get here and I hope I can follow through; this would be a huge personal achievement.

It's moving forward. Hattontown and I are both pretty busy, but we're working tirelessly on it. No rest or breaks for us!

Don't worry- with this project, no news is good news :) Just assume we are in a constant state of working on it. If we ever quit the project partway through, which will never happen, we will share what we have.

I thought about releasing period patches, like when a playthrough to one particular ending is finished, but the problem is that then it's not really a free experience for the player. Better to wait for a fully translated and tested patch so you can enjoy the game the way it was meant to be.

I created an account solely to reply to this topic.

The fact you are working on a translation for this game makes me and my friend EXTREMELY HAPPY!   ;D

We have been fans of this series for a while now and have always wanted to play the sequel. I never played Lost in Blue but I think I would rather play this game first when it gets translated.

I really like what I see so far. I hope to see you guys make it to the end and make a ton of SK fans happy! Keep up the great work.

Hey everyone. Someone (or a few people) have mentioned that they're excited to play SK2 because they think Lost in Blue (which is still known as Survival Kids over here in Japan, btw), has taken the series in the wrong direction. I couldn't agree more.

Anyways, if any of you are interested, here's the opening to the game. We have made significant progress beyond this, but I thought this would give you a taste of what the finished patch will be like. Subject to change, of course.

You have no idea how happy you are making me with this fan translation. I pretty much just joined the forums to tell you that. I started playing the first Survival Kids game recently and I'm loving it, so it's so awesome to see this being done. <3

Just a note to let you know that the translation continues. I really want to finish this project as soon as possible, so I am devoting more time to it. (NOTE: This does not mean it will be out anytime soon, so don't hold your breath.) Without spoiling anything, I do want to say that SK2 is very much a suitable sequel (so far) and SK1 fans will not be disappointed. It may be better than SK1, but I am waiting until I finish the game to declare that with certainty.

Point is- your wait is not vain; this is a game worth waiting for.

Just another note to say that the translation continues. I am almost at the end of one of the campaigns, and I guestimate that the game is 50% translated. No promises on a release date, but I wanted to let you know the project is very much alive.

Not to nitpick, but I'd been watching this and thinking it might be better to get rid of the Japanese quotation brackets (the [ and ] type thingies, actually 「 and 」) and either replace them with English quotation marks or nothing (if nothing, probably have a colon after names in speech).

Either way, I've seen a lot of failed projects to get this game into English, and I wish you the best of luck. I'd love to see it translated. Keep up the good work!

Haha, are they really that bothersome? The original Survival Kids actually used them as well, although even worse in my opinion (Basically two triangles connected together).
It'd be a simple change, but ultimately it's hattontown's translation and his call.
Title: Re: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands
Post by: ChronoMoogle on July 02, 2013, 07:49:54 pm
Personally I think they  are somehow part of the Survival Kids-style. Probably because the original translation for the prequel also featured them.
Title: Re: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands

I vote to remove them.

Sometimes the player's name shows up before the actual sentence, so you've gotta put something there.

Take this screenshot from the original game for example:

So not only do they have a practical purpose, there's also a precedence.  Plus,  hattontown's quote brackets are an improvement visually over those used in the first game.

I know I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure he could find better things to do with his time than fix something that isn't broke.

Honestly everyone, I really do have better things to do with my time. My priority now is translating the game. After that, I will sit down with the English version of the game and play the crap out of it to make sure I like it. If at that point I decide I don't like anything, I will discuss changes with USC.

All of that being said, if the quotes really bother you that much, you could always wait for my patch, and then patch the patch!

People really like standard punctuation. Thing is, standard punctuation is a fairly new thing, with the exact minutiæ of today’s near-universal usage dating back only about a century :)

That everyone (myself included now, I guess) is commenting on such a trivial issue is really a form of bikeshedding, I think.

I know that Blue Sphere is being worked on by Aeon Genesis and a separate patch is being worked on by a guy named lokai20. Both projects have not been update since February of last year.

Hey there! Glad to hear you're excited about the game!
From what I understand, we're nearly done with the 1st main scenario/ending. It looks like there are roughly 5 endings, but a lot of dialogue is shared between paths so it should take less time translating the others (hopefully!).
Title: Re: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands
Post by: hattontown on August 16, 2013, 08:03:31 pm
Hey everyone- as always, fear not, the project is not dead and never will be. Summer is extrememly busy for me so progress has been slow. USC is right- I'm almost done with one ending, and lots of text is shared between endings, so I'm hoping we are approaching the 50% mark. Additionally, I bought a guidebook (in Japanese, of course) so progress should continue more quickly now that I don't have to progress through experimentation. I'm also planning on releasing a GameFAQ along with the patch so that everyone can benefit from the information.

FEAR NOT! Progress continues, slow but steady, and thanks for your patience!

At this point I believe it's safe to say that the translation is 50% complete. As always, don't expect frequent updates. Just be patient and assume that no news is good news.

An update: I'm nearly done adding in hattontown's latest translations, which means it is now actually possible to finish the game in English! (Provided you follow the ending we did, haha!).
Subsequent playthroughs should be easier as a result.

Here are a few new pictures to tide you over while we continue to work. :)

PS: Wyndcrosser, I haven't heard anything from the previous group translating in quite a while. From what I understand, they had mostly done the menus and items - I don't think the dialogue had been touched yet.

Hey everyone, as USC recently stated, work continues. I am actually sitting down right now to play another session. I just wanted to let you all know that I recently deleted my Youtube channel (mostly because I didn't understand what the heck google was trying to do with all the pluses and channels a dodats and zippyzats and whatever). It was a three-day weekend in Japan and I used a ton of my free time to make some serious headway on this project. Hey Guyo! I use LunarIPS for both patch creation and application.
When we release the final product, it'll be an .ips file. You'll run your patching program (LunarIPS or whatever program you prefer), and it'll apply the .ips to the .gbc file. That's all there is to it.

                                      (No dialog, just Dinosaurs...)

At this point, HattonTown has all five endings done. I believe you could play through the core game at this point and not encounter any Japanese. Now we're working on the side-quests and additional flavor dialogue. :)

Unfortunately, the secret ending requires a link cable to access (Yeah, we thought it was weird too). After reading Ren_Fern's tips, I found a way to access it, but it's not the official way and relies on luck\randomized placement of bears. We're discussing how to handle this...so far, we're thinking either remove the blocking object or change the condition to something else (Yay Assembly!).

The trick in getting the diamond and passing the bear that is blocking your path is to use a Kindling to make a fire so that the bear will not reach you. Equip your Bow with Arrow to shoot a bear. A total of 21 shots to kill a single bear. There are times the fire will worn out. Quickly use the Kindling to make a fire again. I did get the diamond in the shelter inside this cave. That will make the game complete without using a link cable. The Survival Kids 2 Picture. I know you can do it. Be patient and perseverance is the key here. Please visit this website http://www.chaptercheats.com/cheats/gameboycolor/22416/Survival-Kids-2-Cheats.htm for more Survival Kids 2 hints. I hope you can make some FAQS or videos about this game like you did in youtube. Unfortunate for me I can't make a video for this game. I simply pass some Hints and Tricks about Survival Kids 2 Japanese version. God Bless.

I am very grateful and thankfully that the Japanese Programmer Staff of Survival Kids 2 Japanese Version created the game More Challenging. You can actually Finish and Complete the Game 100% without using a link cable. The most challenging part in this game is to Get the Diamond for Additional Ending without using link cable. Now if you successfully found and get the diamond without using link cable, you are definitely the Best Survival Kids 2 Gamer Ever. I did get the diamond without using link cable. It is a challenge for everyone who love to play this game. I know you can do it. Then your gamer fans can do it too. Thank you very much for visiting this website http://www.chaptercheats.com/cheats/gameboycolor/22416/Survival-Kids-2-Cheats.htm.

The picture of the Additional Ending goes like this: Either Yamato - the blue kid or Musashi - the red kid is smiling while holding a diamond on the palm of his hand.

Challenging Part: Get the Diamond without using link cable.

Here are some tips to pass those annoying bears.
- Bring Knife, Kindling, Flashlight, Mineral Canteen, Bow, Arrow. Must have a 100% Full Health Status to enter this challenging quest. It must be Night time to enter this cave.
- Use the Flashlight to lighten the dark area especially during Night time or inside the cave.
- Use Kindling to make a fire so that the bear cannot reach you. Use the Kindling often as your defense against those annoying bears.
- Equip your Bow with Arrow. Shoot while you are behind or near a fire to defeat a bear one at a time. A total of 20 shots to kill a single bear.
- If the area is clear - no bears, take the 3 meat then cook it. Eat the Baked Meat to boost your health status.
- The more bears you killed, the more meat to cooked, the more food to eat to survive inside this cave.
- As you progress toward the bottom left side of the screen into a shelter, you will find water pond inside this cave to drink water when necessary.
- When you reach the end bottom left side of this cave, move your character kid between the horizontal-vertical stripe lane toward upper-left corner to enter the shelter.
- No enemies inside the shelter. All you have to do is solve the puzzle. Different puzzle for each kid. http://www.chaptercheats.com/cheats/gameboycolor/22416/Survival-Kids-2-Cheats.htm.
- Once you solved the puzzle, enter the secret stairs. Open all the doors until you reach a room with some kind of a satellite in there. Actually a scene will trigger.
- Now find and Get the Diamond on the upper-left side of the screen. A scene will trigger, holding a diamond treasure. You will have a victory sound. Quickly exit the shelter.
- You are in the cave again with those annoying bears. Use Kindling to make fire. Equip Bow and Arrow to shoot the bear that is blocking your path.
- Be sure to collect more food and water to survive on your way out. Use them when necessary.
- It must be Night Time to exit this cave.
- Once you are near the entrance of the cave and still the time is sunrise, noon, and sunset, all you have to do is move the kid up and down near the visible entrance cave until it is Night time.
- Immediately exit this challenging cave quest. Use the flashlight to lighten dark area during Night time. Quickly enter the hut and save your game.
- Once you familiarize the cave area and manage to pass those annoying bears, it is definitely an Easy and Challenging Quest to Get the Diamond Without Using A Link Cable.
- Now do any of the 5 Endings to see the Additional Ending scene.

Congratulations for your outstanding achivements. God Bless.

Bumping old threads isn't going to make updates magically appear.
They'll appear whenever the translator has something to share, *and* is feeling like willing to talk about it.
Until then... though luck for you. Be patient.

Hey guys! Thanks for the continued interest in this project. You can breathe easy, Hattontown and I are still working on it. :)
At this point, we're mostly trying to find all the dialogue we've translated in actual playthroughs to see if it looks right.

Also...dinosaurs.

You are probably already aware but Star Ocean: Blue Sphere is on the active project list at Aeon Genesis.   I've been waiting eagarly for that one as well.  It will happen!  Last news it was 60% complete.

Hey everyone, just an update to say that this project is very much NOT dead and never will be. It's taking awhile but me and USC both have full-time jobs outside of this project. I am actually just right now about to send more screenshots to him.

Somebody asked if my GameFAQ will include instructions for all the endings. To be honest, that might be the ONLY thing my GameFAQ includes. I'm a very concise person, and quite frankly if you need step-by-step instructions on how to explore every screen of the island, well... You're up a creek. I will probably make a very concise guide on how to get all of the endings and craft all necessary objects.

I feel confident in saying that this project will be released by Christmas at the absolute very latest. That being said, I really hope it doesn't take that long. But this isn't my full-time job.

Hi I don't know how things are done here and I may be out of line to say this but I am just wondering if you may release the game earlier and GAMEFAQ separately. Or is releasing them at the same time a way to prevent another from making a guide before you do ? Myself I am just excited to play the game and will not likely use a FAQ. Not trying to be rude or step on anyone's toes just curious.

Nathan.

Just wanted to update everyone on some exciting news!
One of the stumbling blocks we'd been dealing with in this project was the Sixth Ending, which requires a link cable to access. We finally found a GBC emulator that supports linking (VBA only works on GBA games, unfortunately), so we can actually complete the game now!

There are a couple of other areas in the game that also seem to require a link cable, so we'll get those covered too.

But according to that Ren_Fern post on the previous page, I thought you didn't need a link cable to see that 6th ending? (is it an extra scene or an actual 6th ending?)
Title: Re: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands
Post by: USC on March 16, 2014, 09:23:58 am
Reyvgm: Yes and no. Ren_Fern's way *works* but it's not the way the game wants you to do it (in fact, there are several cutscenes specifically telling you not to do it)...it's also *REALLY* hard and involves taking advantage of a glitch in the programming. Basically, it's like trying to swim against a really strong current when there's a path already marked. :)
(Also, you miss out on an item or two, as well as dialogue that explains stuff).

As for the sixth ending...
Spoiler:
...it's registered as a sixth ending on the in-game chart, but it's an extra epilogue for any of the other endings. You need to see it for 100% completion, however.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I just sent another translation session to USC and sat down to play-test more of the patch. It's been awhile since I poked around in the English version, lately I've spent more of my time on the Japanese side, and I was blown away at how everything is coming along because of USC's work. Countless times I've passed USC a translation that simply won't fit into the allotted character count. (As you may know, Japanese is more compact than English in terms of letters/characters, but we can't expand the amount of characters.) Yet in every case, USC has done a fantastic job preserving the original meaning despite the constricted space.

In short, because of him you'll soon be able to play the version of SK2 you wish hit store-shelves years ago.

I'd also like to thank you again for your constant support. I never thought I would move to Japan, ever. I never thought I would learn Japanese. If you told me when I was an 11-year-old kid, reading a magazine's preview of SK2, "You will translate this game," I would have told you you are crazy. This thread has received over 12,000 views, several people have joined the forum just to thank us for our work, and I never thought I'd get a volunteer partner from the internet as dedicated as USC.

The project is nearing completion. We have no release date yet. We want to make sure we release a complete translation, so that you can have the experience you wish you had years ago, every contingency tested. As always, thanks for your patience and support.

Aw, you're making me blush. XD

In related news, I've figured out the level layout format and palette!

I removed one of the trees to the right of the player, so you can just walk around the boulder without having to use a link cable.
(This isn't the final layout by the way, so feel free suggest how to make it prettier/better fitting)

If I ever get crazy enough, I might make a map editor for this game...:)

Oh, definitely. I actually used KGIB up until now for testing the link cable stuff - it just required two computers and was kind of annoying. :)
Thanks for mentioning Everdrive GB though; I planned on making a cart when we get the final game done, and that looks like a perfect way to do it.

Yeah, that's how I roll... :)

Cestius: Bought both actually. I had heard of survival kids before but never really looked at it before this thread. so I went ahead and got the first to try it now. I really liked lost in blue in college and Link to the past is my favorite Zelda. So I hope these are a less masochistic and easier for 10 minutes here and there. Then I hope I can play with my six year old.

Reyvgm: I don't know if the translation would work on original hardware or not. I've never tried it for gameboy game but I've put translations on the original cart for many snes and nes games.

Well ok, sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was "patching" the actual rom chips in the original games. But with some eproms or correct flash chips, you can sometimes/often replace the rom chips with the translated rom--it's a repro. And I like to use the original cartridge--Sweet home on a sweet home famicom cartridge, clock tower on an original super famicom cart.

I didn't mean to take over this thread so I'll shut up about this now. All it is is a repro using the original game board. And if people say this translation works on hardware, I might try making a repro for myself (anyone plan on trying it on a flash cart?).

Hey everyone! Just wanted to post an update.

Ultimately, it's Hattontown's call when we release the translation. Personally, I'd say we're nearly *functionally* done...you could play through the entire game multiple times without ever seeing any Japanese (Well, garbled mess, but you know...). Here's more or less what's left to do:
---------------------------------------------------------
*A few random food items (There are like twenty-million combinations of food in this game; you can cook it, preserved it, and even mix two items to get different food. It's a nightmare finding them all). Nearly done.

*Hints. This is the largest remaining block of text, because it's really not crucial and half of it is in Katakana. We definitely want to finish it though.

*Some alternate dialogue paths. Basically, every conversation you have in the game can be different depending on what you've done at that point. For instance...
Spoiler:
There's a haunted bed in the villain's fortress. If you sleep in it, a ghost will haunt you and you'll wake up complaining about not sleeping. If you overhear the boss talking about the second floor being haunt, sleeping in the bed will prompt you to say "...was that the ghost?" as well as stating you're tired. And there's additional text that seems to imply it's the ghost of the wrecked ship on the other island, but I haven't been able to find the trigger that prompts that dialogue to test it.
There's not too much of that left, but I want to see all of it in-game before I consider it finished.

*Verifying that all the post-game items are correct. Again, we have the full list, but I haven't found all of it in-game yet.
------------------------------------------------------

Also, I'm definitely going to burn this to cart so I can play it on real hardware. Definitely keep me updated if you have any problems with it on a flashcart.

Spoiler:
We found one of the bad guy's personal effects:

What's inside is pretty amusing. :)

Loved finding out about the first one when I was a kid. Was kind of blown away by what you could do but ultimately, never got anywhere and ended up dying.

Super excited about this it seems to be very fleshed out compared to the first - has more charm than Lost in Blue definately.

Hey everyone. Quick note to assure you that the project is most certainly NOT dead, and never will be. As a matter of fact I've made some significant progress in the past few weeks. To keep this explanation short, I'll just say that though we've had the bulk of the core game translated for some time now, we've been focusing lately on little bits that the average user might not come by on a first play through- game hints provided by one particular character (written in a dialect and with many cultural references I didn't understand, so it took awhile), item descriptions for items we never found, etc.

The patch will be released by Christmas at the absolute latest, though I would venture to say that it may be earlier. We are endeavoring to present to you a near-perfect patch on the first release, but I'm sure there will be some mis-labeling of items or something that people will report to us, and then we'll have to re-patch.

As of right now, literally every string in the game has been translated. But now we need to first insert that translation into the ROM, and then playtest to make sure we're giving you the experience you want. Please be patient and rest assured your wait is not in vain.

July 12, 2014, 08:46:21 am - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.)
Also, someone asked what my overall opinion of the game is. I hope to release a review on GameFAQs and maybe YouTube simultaneously with the patch release, but let me assure you that if you loved SK1 and hated/were disappointed by Lost in Blue, you will love this game. The game has more plot, and a choice you make at the beginning of the game significantly affects your playthrough. It is almost like having 2 Survival Kids games in one. Maybe more like 1.5 SK games in one. There are more interesting things you can make through merging, but one thing I found incredibly interesting was the new "Break" option. You can break previously complex items into smaller parts- and you will need to rely on this for some of the problem-solving in the game.

The only con I have come across is that unlike SK1, there are no mini games (that I've found). But this is a pretty small complaint.

You will not be disappointed.

My apologies for bumping this thread, but I immediately created an account just to thank you guys for the hard work you've been doing. I only just today learned about the existence of a second GBC Survival Kids game, and being an avid SK1 player when the GBC was still a thing, you can imagine my excitement. I'm so, so excited for your translation to be finished. I was shocked to find a recent and ongoing project to be honest but I'm giddy nonetheless!

I've never dealt with ROMs before, however, so please forgive my ignorance in these next questions; is it possible to program a ROM like this into a Gameboy cartridge so I can play it on my handheld system? Do I need certain hardware or software to do so? Can I hire someone to do it for me?

Thanks again. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to any future updates as they come ;D

To answer your question, you can buy something called a 'Flashcart'. It'll have software where you can download the rom file to the cart, then play it on your Gameboy. It's pretty simple; you shouldn't have a problem with it.

I think the most popular one for Gameboy is called 'Everdrive GB', if that helps any.

And thanks for the interest! We've hit a bit of lull because I've have real life stuff I've had to focus on, but I hope to get back to adding in HattonTown's translations really soon.

This is the last time I am going to say it:

The project is not dead and never will be. The patch will be released when it is released.

By Christmas.

Both USC and I have been incredibly busy.

Yeah, I've been slacking a bit  - sorry 'bout that!
Anyway, I finally finished adding all the hints you get from both waking up each day and paying the bird in items. A sample of his wisdom is below:

Incidentally, it was the bird that changed this from a translation to a localization - with such gems as "Be careful if you're styling your butt hair with tonic; it could burn you!", we felt that some things needed to be changed...

Made an account just to show support for the upcoming translation for Survival Kids 2. I'm hoping, almost expecting it to be compatible with PC emulators, because I'll be using VisualBoy to play it. Good work on what you have so far, you two. Keep it up!

@ChronoMoogle: That's the hope. I've given HattonTown the last of the dialog to translate, and in the meantime I finally have to buckle down and figure out the compression for four graphics in the game. It's doable, real life permitting. :)

@Ambition: Thanks for the interest in the translation! Yes, this game should work on VBA - it's what I've been testing it on up to this point! :)
There will actually be two patches: one for purists that just translates the dialogue, and a second that makes it possible to get all six endings without using a link-cable (which VBA can't do for GBC games).

Thank you USC and Hattontown both for taking on this project. About a year ago I didn't even know there was a sequel to Survival Kids (not counting "Lost in Blue"), let alone an English translation project. Your hard work is greatly appreciated!

Hey everyone- super sorry we didn't make the Christmas release like we hoped.

But to be honest- I never really wanted to give a release date anyway. I was just tired of people asking "Is it dead is it dead" and thought we'd be able to have it done by Christmas. But you know how it is- Christmas plans and holiday chaos and whatnot.

We're still working and hope to have this released ASAP.

Title: Re: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands

Hey everyone. Quick note to say I believe I just finished translating all the strings in the game which have not been translated. Now, I think USC is gonna put them into the game (whenever he has time) and we should be all set. No promises on a release date, but I wanted you to know we are super, super close.

Please note that the translation won't be 100% perfect. In several locations we could only find the string in the game's code, not actually in the game itself. That means I had to do my best to translate it without context. Though the game will be 100% playable and understandable, it won't be 100% perfect. So we're asking you to keep your eyes open for broken strings, or text that doesn't make sense.

Anyways, stay patient. We're almost there.

Hey everyone! I don't want to steal Hattontown's thunder, but I think he's going to have a very exciting announcement about the release date for this translation in the very near future!

Also, fun fact: The game is compatible with the original GameBoy, so if you want to have that classic black and white film experience while playing, you can!

(Also if you're too poor to afford anything but an original GameBoy in 2015, you can still play this game! Woot!)

Alright- I don't want to keep y'all waiting any longer. Here, use this link until approval clears through Romhacking.net:

I just want to thank USC and my Japanese teacher again. When this project started, I was new to Japan and didn't speak any Japanese at all. I lived in Japan for three years, studied Japanese, passed the JLPT level 3, moved back to the US and finished this patch. You should always wonder where life will take you- it is an amazing, incredible experience. It is nothing you thought and everything you needed.

The only thing I ask of you is to do something. Just do something. I learned Japanese through a volunteer, and now I give this to you for free because I've gotten so many free things in my life. Share yourself with others- whatever you talent is, do it. Make someone brownies. Pick up trash at your park. Tutor some kid after school. It doesn't matter. Just do something.

I'm so glad this game finally has a translation patch! Just a quick question, though, I'd noticed in the readme about the whole game link thing being required for the best ending, along with a few other things. Earlier in the topic, you had shown that you'd removed a tree in one such area so it could be passed without the link cable. Will you still be making an optional patch for these situations? Anyway, thanks so much for this!
Title: Re: Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands

Skyrunner14: We were originally going to, but we found that there are emulators like TGB Dual (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/gameboy/tgbdual.html) that are compatible with VBA saves and let you use the link cable function. The ReadMe has instructions on how to use it.

Spoiler:
**Find all three map parts and combine them
**Go to the spot on the newly made map and find the giant rock
**Use the link cable hook-up and search the rock to activate a mini-game.

**Explore, search the tombstone, and watch the cutscene.
**Use water to wash off the tablet
**Sleep in the room.

**Create a magnetic Fishing pole to get the key (3 item merge)
**Unlock the door, then exit and come back to remove the bear

**Solve the hallway puzzle
**Secret Ending activated!

Define 'freeze a little'. You suffer ill effects if you eat something that's spoiled, just like in real life! Did the screen actually lock-up/crash, or were you just paralyzed for a bit?

Also, thanks for the catch! I knew that one of the fruits was matched to the wrong pointer, but I couldn't remember which.

BlueBottle: Not sure if this Correct but try and place Hook + String + bamboo   then merge with Magnet and try and use that

Sorry I'm so obtuse, I was trying to attach the magnet to the fishing rod I already had, derp.

Believe me, you have no idea how long it took me to figure out the combination originally. There's part of the email chain between Hattontown and I that's just me ranting about it. :)

Ren_Fern: The last merge item is a slingshot. You get it by merging rubber with the Y-stick. You get both those items by using the link cable to send a stick (which becomes a Y-stick in trade) and ivy (which becomes rubber in trade). I can send you a list of the known trade items if you want to add that to your ChapterCheat page.

Arigatou gozaimasu. Thank you very much.
Merge Item #20 is flex tree + thread + magnet = magnet fishing rod
Merge Item #28 is Y-Stick (link cable trade: stick) + rubber (link cable trade: ivy) = slingshot

@SORASUNYU: Hello there! I only know a little Chinese, but I get the impression that I can't see the image you've linked due to it being private. Can you make the image public, or possibly email me the image (my address should be in the Survival Kids 2 patch readme file)?

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of baidu just banning non-Chinese traffic. :P

That's definitely possible - I'm able to see photos on other people's Baidu albums though, and the page itself links me back to SORASUNYU's main album.

Would you just upload it with imgur or something?

SORASUNYU's Title Screen:

It's pretty cool! We do plan on translating the few compressed graphics in the game (Title Screen, "Select a Player", and "Days Survived") - as soon as I stop being lazy and figure out the compression. :)

Right here on RomHacking.net! (http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2330/)

Be sure to search through the archives - there's plenty of other great translations too for almost every system!

Hi guys ! Happy new year !

Like a lot of people, I registered just for this thread to thank you, USC and Hattontown, for your amasing translation of this game and the very hard work you've put into this.

Hattontown, your story has moved me so much. You're one of a kind man. LoL Going to Japan and live there for 3 years to learn the language just to translate a game... Respect !

I have played SK1 recently and checked a suite of this game on Internet, then I discovered this thread, and thanks to you I came to play SK2 too... Not only "play" it but "working" on it.

Hattontown, you wish that we do "something" and... I have a proposal to make to you, and to your partner USC. How can I get in touch with both of you in private ?

Sorry if my English is not perfect, I am a French woman.

Hey LAHKW! Glad to hear you enjoyed the game so much.

Feel free to send either of us a personal message by clicking our names, then choosing "Send PM" when the new page loads.

I'm not sure if Hattontown checks the forums here as much anymore, but I'd be happy to let him know to check his message.

Smart!

Instead of asking for help - you offend the forum with insults...
