The Romhacking Aerie - Projects Thread

Since we already have two and a half project threads it was time to create a general one for all our other current and future projects.

Since Tom is getting available again soon I've resumed work on Devil Children Ice Book. There is one particularily evil screen I'd like you guy's opinion for.

The problem are the tiny category descriptions on the top of the screen.

Here is how Atlus did in the earlier DC editions:



I don't really like to use ultra squishy tiles for this. In fact I'd hate to have to. Maybe custom icons would work? Could someone design some? I totally suck at any picture manipulation, much less pixel art. If you have other suggestions on what to do with those captions, please go ahead.

I agree that the squishy text looks really bad, especially the ones that run into the border, icons are probably the way to go. What colors are available for use in that font? The icons could be made to look better if there are a few additional colors that could be added to them.

I third icons. Those tabs look horrible all squished up like that. Maybe a cross for heal, a sword for attack, etc. Wand or burst or something for boost. A ring for relic. Stuff like that.

You'd have 16 colors. There are a lot of unused palettes in the menu, so I could rig something up that you'd have pretty much free hand.

By the way, the translations I got for the categories is:

Recovery
Attack
Defense
Other
Relic
Fossil

They are not 100% as Atlus'. No more skills and fossils instead. Maybe one can learn skills from fossils. I have to ask the translator.

It's been a while since there was any news about this. I found an image editor who'll join our group to help with all future graphics works. He already did a set of icons for the menu I talked earlier in this topic, but I haven't finished inserting the graphics yet so it's still sekrit.

In other news, story translation reached 100% That makes about 60% of the whole thing, with stuff like monster description and other misc text left. I also got back into working mode and continued work on the menues, fighting for every single string against programming from hell.

Looking very much for this. I got through light and dark back in the day, and i played ice and flame for a bit. The story looks much more interesting than L & D (I think cause it revolves more about who  Akira and Jin are) . And the background images and sprites looks even crispier too for some reason   <_<

Working flawlessly for both characters and devils. Max 16 characters or 64 pixel with the 8x8 font, whichever one comes first.
We also changed the text encoding to ASCII, thus killing all the problems we had with names.

"Masou" (what is this? 魔装? "Relic" I guess?)

not sure if that makes a difference, especially if you went with icons anyway.
