ROM Hacks: Blaster Master: Pimp your Ride

Jigglysaint has released version 1.1 of his new Blaster Master hack entitled Blaster Master: Pimp your Ride.

The main feature of this hack is that 8 new upgrades have been added into the game, on top of the 7 that already exist.  This makes for a combined 15 upgrades.  What each new upgrade does is a secret.  Most will be needed in order to finish the game.

The game also features level edits.  The first two tank levels have been re-done, and the others have recieved minor updates in order to show off the new upgrade features.

no way dude, Blaster Master is a classic, and your hack a decent one.

Everybody should give this hack a try, it's really cool and Jigg added some really neat features. Blaster Master shoulda been done like this back in the 1980's. This hack is already a classic in my book.

So play the hack, you'll be glad you did.

That's the reality of hacking a non-mario/zelda/sonic/big franchise game.  I'm lucky if I get one responce for my hacks. I don't care tho. I'm hacking for the love of the game.

What game are you hacking?

Various ones. Usually games that I feel need improvement that noone else has touched.

Any examples?  You never know, I just might have some information on one you might be hacking.

Super Mario World (SNES), Castlevania Adventure, Castlevania Legends, Mortal Kombat. Those are ones I started working on, but haven't finished. Theres other games that I have in mind to do something with sometime down the road. I'm not really looking for help tho. I was just saying that I hack games that ain't that popular and don't get suprised if theres little responce. I release them tho in case there is someone out there that does have interest.

Just wait untill you collect the new upgrades.  There is a reason why your ride is totally pimped out.

Hi, thanks for the great hack. Blaster Master is one of my favorite classics.
I wanted to ask a question though...how many upgrades do I need to level up the gun? Cause Ive been going at it for a while and nada!

Lemme put it this way:  Collect every single gun you can find, then go back and do it again.  If you collect every single gun powerup from start to level 2, you should have your first upgrade.  I added in places in the tank section to get more gun power, so just abuse the fact that gun powerups come back when you switch modes.

Also, there is a place in stage 3 that has 3 flashing gun powerups(that's 9/32).  Even more fun is that if you destroy everything, the items will re-appear because the stack which handles all the sprites will reset or somthing.  Four trips ought to give you an upgrade.

I'd forgotten what a pain in the ass it is when you don't know where you're going in this game. Then again, that's what makes it fun.

Are the new upgrades situational or automatic or something? After picking one up on stage 6, it doesn't seem to have any obvious use.
