Or Japanese names on an English message boards?! I just find the recent trend of the "lol-katakana-names" to be rather annoying and board line elitist. What about the portion of the community who can't read kana? "Oh so squiggles...or was it zig-zag? Either way, someone posted a new thread..."

starmen.net's namevatars.  It's okay if they allow avatars to contest winners, donors, etc. But I've seen a couple that don't even have a name in them. (since the avatar replaces the name, you have to check their profile to see what to call them if you respond if you don't know them)
