ROM Hacks: FFT: War of the Lions Slowdown Fix Released!
« on: September 20, 2012, 08:35:13 am »

Update By: Eternal248

Love FFT: War of the Lions, but hate the slowdown that comes with it? You're in luck! With the help of fellow ffhacktics.com member Archaemic, I've created a .ppf file which removes the slowdown, allowing you to play WotL without having to suffer from the annoyance of slowdown during animations. To apply the patch, you'll need to use PPF-o-Matic to patch a clean War of the Lions ISO- not a CSO- with this patch. Enjoy!

Oh, heck yes.  That was one of my annoyances with the PSP version.  I'll give this a shot (when I find time, grumble grumble)!

Thank you seriously, one of the worst design oversights I can remember, thank you again seriously, from everyone.

Be sure to report if it doesn't work for any of you. Some people have reported it to randomly not work. I think it's a firmware thing.

Does this patch work with the Japanese version?

Tried it out a couple of months back when the CFW patch got released on FFH. Works like a charm. Good job!

@Darkness: I honestly have no idea. I'm not sure if the Japanese version is structured the same or if the patch would totally mess things up. I wouldn't attempt it, honestly.

As long as we're talking about CFW, does the game work on emulators?
This depresses me. I feel like a goldfish right now...

Last I heard, the PSP emulator is absolutely terrible (unless it was updated- I don't really keep track of it), but if you can get the emulator running, I don't see why it wouldn't.

If you're going for emulation, you're probably just better taking the PSX version, and using the patch that pokes in the dialogue from the PSP version.  PSX emulation is much more mature at present.

The livepatch version also works with official releases; you just need CFW. It works flawlessly with my UMD. :)

I'd like to note that if you're using the Livepatch version, you -cannot- have it active if you're running an ISO patched with this. There have been reports that if you do, the slowdown fix won't work at all.

What was exactly the issue causing the slowdowns? I can imagine TOSE messing details as usual, since their code usually sucks big times. I remember this port being hilariously faulty as you can get the emulated PSX version to work way better with no need for patches, which is even worse as the two are visually identical.

The slowdown was intentionally coded, for what purpose is unknown. The actual fix is just a three-byte change. I at first suspected the cause was Multiplayer, but Multiplayer has been confirmed to work fine with the fix.
