Just a reminder; Gungir is now available in the USA
« on: June 13, 2012, 01:29:28 pm »

What may very well be the last PSP game released in the USA, Gungir, is out now:

http://www.atlus.com/gungnir/purchase.html

A couple reviews:

http://www.1up.com/reviews/gungnir-review

http://www.rpgamer.com/games/deptheaven/gungnir/reviews/gungnirstrev1.html

If anybody knows any other PSP games still officially coming to the USA, please let me know.

GrowlanserGrowlanser, Growlanser, Growlanser.  Super-stoked for that one.

EDIT:  Ugh, also has preorder information in the pic.  Forget that.

There we go.

Releases July 31st apparently.

Has anybody heard anything else about Final Fantasy Type 0 coming to USA via PSP (not Vita, because I have a PSP that's why).

There's really no reason not to release Type-0 on PSP. I mean, hell, we're still getting download titles for DSi on the 3DS eShop - Square needs to grow a pair and just drop it on PSN if releasing it on UMD is such a big bother.

Well, provided they localize it at all.  Which they should.

(I'd personally rather have a UMD, but I'd also rather have the game than not at all, so if UMD isn't an option, I'm down for PSN.)

Ragnarok Tactics announced
No mention if it's UMD or PSN, but given that Aksys' site mentions taking preorders, we can probably guess a UMD version will be available.

Meh, some of Sting's games were pretty disappointing to me in the past. I doubt this one will be any different. :-\

A lot of Sting's stuff falls into the "ambitious mess" category.  If you can make sense out of what they're doing, and everything "clicks", they're guaranteed to become your favorites.  If not...  well, it just doesn't, and there's nothing inherently wrong with you for it.  They've done so many divergent takes in the Dept. Heaven series of games that it's really hard to judge which ones you'll like and which ones you won't.

That being said, my absolute favorite from that series is Riviera.  I enjoyed every single bit of that game.  Great, great stuff.

Yggdra Union is the one I haven't been able to get into.  I've had it for a long time.  They went too SRPG for my tastes as of late, and as a lot of folks here have already figured out, I tend to tank out on them well before finishing.  Personal failing, I suppose.  At least I recognize it now, and don't go crazy buying them all.  :P

I don't remember much about Yggra Union despite playing it one time. As for Riviera, I seriously tried to get into that game, but got fed up with it within a few hours. There were so many aspects of the game I didn't like: the lazy navigation from one identical-looking screen to the next, the stupid treasure chest trap puzzles, the bare-boned combat system, having to reorganize my inventory every five minutes thanks to the limited space, all the pointless banter between Ein and his loli companions, etc. I really don't see the appeal in that game.

I forgot to mention it about two weeks ago, but Unchained Blades is out.  I don't think you can buy it on a UMD, it's download only I believe.  Still, at least it's one last localized PSP RPG, for those buyin' that sort of thing.  Looks fairly hardcore too.  Thanks out to XSEED.

There's also a 3DS version coming, apparently.  And it's also download-only, unless I'm missing something.

I have a hard time saying yes to physical-priced downloads that aren't available in physical media.

amazon and GameStop are now taking preorders on Ragnarok Tactics which, aside from NBA 2K13, looks to be the final North American PSP game.
And it looks like GameStop is only selling it online, so I guess there's no worries about getting a gutted copy. (thankfully PSP games come in plastic cases that should withstand GameStop cheapo shipping envelopes :P )

Ragnarok Tactics looks decent.  Class Of Heroes 2 is pretty much up in the air whether it will get released. Aside from that, the only other PSP game I'm looking forward to getting an English release is this.  Even if it is just a digital download.  However soon it will be true; our only hope for future PSP English releases will come in the form of fan translations.

The one thing I really liked about Yggdra was the luck stats on units being so important. You'd have to kill certain bosses with characters who have high luck to get their drops, but that means killing them with your weakest characters usually. Added a very rewarding challenge that felt worthy of the effort.

Well, emulation of the PSP has gotten better, and JPCSP even has a fairly decent debugger (though a lot of practical features are still missing...), so maybe there will be more fan translations in the future, especially if it's clear that nothing is going to be officially localized anymore.

A truly kick ass PSP emulator would make me extremely happy.  I'd love to play PSP games on a big monitor with an actual PS2 controller.  I know there's a way to do this already with hardware.  But I appreciate the longevity emulation offers.
