A good mednafen frontend?

D and I were talking about some PC Engine/PC-FX ports of Langrisser games, and now I want to play them. I hate the idea of creating a batch file just to play an emulator.

Suggest me a frontend? I've tried a few (MedGui, Mednafen Launcher, and LetsMednafen) and none of them have worked. Do note that I'm using the latest mednafen (0.9.22).

Hey Reyvgm, thanks for that.  I've wanted to try this emulator for a while, but I abhor command line emulators.

That's not a frontend, it's an outdated, hacked-up fork.

Well no offense, but myself and many others would be more inclined to use Mednafen if it were GUI-ed.  I am sure your emulator is vast and powerful, but collectively we left command lines back in the DOS days.

And that frontend doesn't support PCE CD games, which is what I want to play. Any other suggestions?

You could just drop the Super CD-ROM^2 3.0 file as "syscard3.pce" into the same directory as mednafen.exe, then drag-and-drop CUE sheets to the executable in your OS GUI.  Same with PC-FX("pcfx.rom").

I took the BIOs, renamed it, and threw it into my mednafen directory. I then navigated to the folder with my Langrisser I PCE ROM, and dragged the .cue file onto mednafen.exe. Nothing happened. It didn't even start. I thought perhaps something weird was happening and maybe it started, but wasn't doing anything? There wasn't even an instance of it running in task manager.

What are the contents of the stdout.txt file in the directory containing mednafen.exe, after you do the drag and drop?  Or is it not creating that even?

I'm currently using an old Mednafen version with medgui successfully now, but I remember having troubles with this as well.
It turned out that the bios was not found and the path needed to be set correctly in the cfg, and there's apparently also a bad dump of the pcfx rom around.

This was it. The stdout file said that it wasn't finding the BIOS, because one of the frontends I downloaded actually replaced my config file with the maker's config (which, stupidly, had all of the paths to what they were on HIS computer...moron).

It should work now. I'm gonna give it another shot.

Is Mednafen better than Magic Engine?

For whatever reason, it STILL didn't work. So I started from scratch. I tossed out the entire mednafen folder, thinking maybe one of the frontends screwed something up. Put a fresh copy of it in there, threw the BIOS in there, and it started just fine.
