Luigi Kun (Moai Kun hack)
« on: April 30, 2012, 11:51:55 pm »
An editor came out for Moai Kun so I gave it a spin, so here is what I did...

& here's the title screen...

I hadda edit the words for like that cause some tiles stay the same, making the title screen look ugly. I figure I make a few levels a day I can knock out a hack in no time.

Yay! Another Luigi game. :) Luigi needs more love.
And I'll leave it at that!

Tilemap editing?

Maybe I should go back to editing the title screen, when I did that it was around 3:30am. I'll see what I can do tonight, right now I'm focusing on editing Moai's palettes & them things he collects & making levels as I go on. Here's level 3...

More levels comin' soon. :)

I've been working on my Moai Kun hack non stop but I'm almost done, 20 more levels to go. It's gonna be a 50 level hack, I used enemies where I wasn't supposed to so it messed up levels at the end. Anyway, here's pics from levels 13 to 30...

Have you considered tinkering with the enemy sprites? The little helmet guys could easily be goombas or shyguys, while the larger ones could be hammer bros. Just a thought.

I was gonna do it, but the enemies all share the same palette. Than again maybe I'll look it over just to see how it looks.  :)

The palette issue doesn't matter. If its about SMB, enemies should also be from SMB.

Oh! Could you replace the cherries and other pickups with coins, mushrooms and fireflowers?

You know, the cherries look suspiciously like the cherries from SMB2/Doki Doki Panic.  They fit rather well.
Great job so far.  Keep it up!

I'd use Media Fire.
If you own any prototype versions of Super Mario 64...

Mediafire doesn't allow direct linking. I'd go for dropbox. There's also a good list on the guidelines page.

Mediafire is fine for files. Direct linking is pretty irrelevant when you're just providing a download, no? All it does is jump you over directly to the download page or folder you linked to. Of course if you get a pro account you can direct link, but seriously, is it that much of an issue?

No. I mean a direct link to download the file directly, not go to a screen where you have to click the download button to download it..

I know, but it's not that big a deal when you're just linking from a forum post. I mean if it was going to get placed on your own website, then I can see the aesthetic desire for direct links, but not so much here.

But, anyway, Googie, the hack looks great, man. I'd also suggest trying to replace the enemies with ones from other Mario games. But if not then the ones that are present work fine, too.

It matters if he wants to submit it to RHDN.

Azkadellia: Thanks for the tip, I went with File Den. Wow the scene changed in a span of 3 years that I haven't been ROM Hacking, my usual file hosting site is gone. I submitted the hack, hopefully everything'll go smooth.  :D

Ah. That makes sense, then.
