Staying healthy - waffles and coffee with a spot of tea.

Genetics have more impact on intake than most people would like to admit. I know a guy who's pushing 50 and eats lots of red meat and drinks coffee frequently. His blood panels always come up excellent and he's a cardio machine. I'm naturally an ectomorph with a really fast metabolism. If I just barely lean out my diet and stop working out, I don't get fat. I'd turn into a skeleton within months. That's not to say this is ideal, you can get along pretty damn well with other body types too. You just have to go about it differently. That said, not all people with fast metabolisms aren't necessarily healthy. Again with weight just being a number. Skinny =/= fit. The common factor regardless of body type is always diet and exercise. Even if you have great genetics and can process cheeseburgers until you hit 100 years old, good diet and exercise will still enable you to live even better.
What really grinds my gears - and this is just an example I don't want to dive into politics - is that it's
incredibly hard to do the right thing. You can think you're doing good and then you find out that honey you've been eating is probably from China and potentially stuffed with toxic metals and banned enhancers. Well no wonder it was cheapest, guess you get what you pay for. *sigh* I've put quite genuine consideration into raising my own hive and I've even swapped to fresh farm eggs from sellers I personally know just because they're shown to be better nutritionally and many, many chicken farms are absolutely pathetic in how they raise the animals. Companies cheat all the time, hell if I could find a place here that sold raw, unpasteurized milk I'd buy that too. It's not industrial paranoia, I just enjoy knowing EXACTLY what has gone into my food and knowing that nutrients haven't been lost in various processes that happen to them. Being local, many techniques are not a big concern as they don't need to travel cross country. They just need to make it back home and into my fridge without spoiling.
Anyways, I'm all over the place here. Ironically, when Saturday rolls around I'm going to be stuffing my face with turkey, ham, prime rib, mashed potatoes, pie, cookies, all that good stuff.
