FFX-2 is one of those games you play in the same manner that you watch a really awful horror b-movie. You know you're getting into something horrible (unless you preordered it ) so get some friends and have a few laughs at the first hour or two of the game.

Ah, good old heckling. Statler and Waldorf come to mind.

I would try to laugh at the first hour of FFX-2 if the intro video alone hadn't already made me puke over my TV. In German we have this word that describes it pretty well... Realsatire. Something is so horrible and unbelievable it should be fiction someone made up to make fun of something. Yet it's actually real.

You know, I've professed my enjoyment of FFX in this thread already.  It, and reviews that were pretty positive, convinced me that FFX-2 would be awesome.  And...  yeah.

Ironically, it's not terrible gameplay-wise.  It's got one of the snappiest ATB systems that has been employed in the series, but the whole vibe of the game was...  wrong.  In a bad, horrible, J-Pop Charlie's Angels type of way.  I've actually meant to revisit the game at some point, but it somehow keeps falling well down on my priority list. 

I don't really see the Charlie's Angels vibe people get off of it.

It's so much worse.

that said, it does have the best battle system of any FF game... Sad that it's been stuck into a horrible game.

I had the fortune of playing it long after it had already been released and the cat was out of the bag so I was pretty much expecting a crap shoot. I remember the idea sounded ok way back when it was announced, I really don't care if someone uses the same engine and level of graphics - even if they base it off another game - just as long as it's done well. I admittedly enjoyed FFX so it's not like it was doomed from the beginning.
 
This abortion was like an early revision of Xtreme Beach Volleyball, though. It really doesn't matter at this point if the developer was blatantly catering to fans who liked the girls or genuinely thought it was a great concept, both options are hilarious and sad. I was already splitting at the sides when "WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?!" started molesting my poor stereo system. And not only was it a bad game, it kicked FFX under the bus too by completely ruining the mystique of the ending. You know it's a bad game when it makes OTHER GAMES worse. At least slag like Daikatana kept to itself. It even tried to drag FFVII down with a mako reference.

Only 31 games are better than this, ladies and gentleman!

This is a mysterious ending.

And one that always kind of ticked me off, mostly because of Final Fantasy IV's great ending. I love Final Fantasy VI's ending too, but I remember asking, "What happened then?" when it was over. I guess that's showmanship for ya...leave 'em wanting more.

As I've noted elsewhere, Final Fantasy X's ending ticked me off for...uh, different reasons? Different reasons. But as BRPQZME pointed out, I probably just don't connect to it culturally.

Maybe the wrong word. 10 ended at just the right place. Tacking X-2 on was giving it way too much encore IMO, if that makes any sense (agreed or not).
