- returned hit points from Contra (J) (+ draw them)
- returned cheats from Contra (J) (+ they are introduced with the first joystick)
- Changed the limit of lives in the menu (default is 3, maximum 10)
- Given the opportunity to choose the same characters
- New cheat code (<><>ABCBA^V) - takes you to the debug level. (only chc)

This is a great idea, I took to playing the japanese version solely because of the lifebar. Now I can have that and read the story segments!

Nice! I always liked this Contra game for its unusual qualities, player types and weapons. Of course, I was also frustrated at its extreme difficulty. I'll definitely play this.

What was involved in making this, anyway?  Was the code for the hit points from the Japanese version still in the US and Euro versions, but dummied out somehow?  Or did you somehow have to copy the relevant bits of code out of the Japanese version?

This is awesome! maybe now I can get my guitar player to play. He always whines that it's too hard. With the hit points and cheats, maybe I can persuade him.

in English version code responsible for hit points and cheats has been removed.
I copied it into the empty space.

I tried it last night but the two hacks don't seem to work together.

Perhaps the order in which they are applied makes a difference?
