Rom won't load after changing text

Hi I was trying to translate lines for the nes.From Russian to English now the rom won't load at all.
Using TLP the game uses two different sets of fonts.One for the title screen and one for the rest of the game.


I copied an English font set over the top of the Russian one.Not sure if that was the right way to do it.

Now when I change any of the text in the game using Thingy it won't load the rom at all.
I just get a black screen.

What does your table look like? Without actually looking at game in TLP and seeing if you have the correct portion pulled up it definitely looks like you have to arrow down 7 and to the right one time to get correct portion pulled up. I think the table should look somethink like...

Hmm... Sounds like you got that. With the second loaded did you do a search on the text on title screen?
Eg. QPQUMYROXV
And only edit what shows up on title screen and possibly the FF that are within the title screen portion?

When I use the second table and search for the text on the title screen it finds.
The rom won't load even if I change just one letter.

Maybe the game has a checksum routine that makes it not run if any of the bytes are perceived to have changed? It's been known to exist in some games, iirc. Can you change other bytes of the game and it still runs?

The rom still runs if I change other things.I added more font to game were the wasn't any.

It really sounds that there is a checksum.
Do you know what the original name was in japanese??
I don't see anything about a game called "Lines" on the net.

I've found the game, indeed it is a Russian original.
It was dumped by a well-known Russian in the Famicom dumping scene, in 2008. And that is all the hint I can give.

Saddly it really looking there is a checksum and actually you was lucky because if you had changed the "0" in the tiles, you had already triggered the black screen.
What i can say it's that it's not a simple sum because adding 1 to one byte and subtract 1 from the next is still triggering the black screen and that the checksum doesn't cover the rom completely (or you would had triggered it already by changing the tiles); the checksum ends somewhere between x4010 and x40E0
The best way is to use asm to find out where and what checksum it is or just disable the checksum.
