Top left one is the best one.

But what's with the bullet holes? Where are the lips?

This is based on the English language art:

By the way, I like the top left one also.
And I'll leave it at that!

I like the top left one, that is, no italics slanted.

One more vote for this. I think it's unanimous so far!  :o

Well, this isn't even a landslide; it's an ever growing wall.

Top left it is, but I have a slight dilemma. I have enough tiles for that design, but I can't have a lowercase font if I use it in its current size. I can either shrink the title screen down or just go all caps for the text. There's really not a whole lot of text, so it probably doesn't make much of a difference.

The bottom left with no slant looks good aswell and with that one there should be a lot of tiles that can be reused throughout title screen giving you the extra for lower case.

Just a quick question:

There's A LOT of very impressive work on this board, and I was wondering do most of you simply edit the tiles provided by the ROM, or do you also change the pointers and control codes within the hex to change where the tiles lay on the screen?

I'd like to do a title screen hack for a project I'm working on, but only spare tiles of the screen are laid out tile-for-tile in the hex. The rest seems to be control/ pointer data that I can't seem to wrap my head around. I've read through InVerse's Title Screen Hacking guide from the docs section, but it's doesn't get into pointers. Do I need to learn NESASM to really get this done?

Coincidentally, I was just working on a small thing that addresses your question.
I've done some work with Megaman and Castlevania title screens. I always end up messing around with how the tiles are loaded to change the shape as needed. You will want to learn some basic ASM to get this sort of thing done. Other than that all I can say is that the debugging tools in FCEUX are gonna be your best friends for finding the data you need to get the job done.

Anywho. Decided to give the Akumajyou Densetsu translation a new title screen. I'm thinking of making some more changes to the graphics beyond this and maybe more.

I think some of the letters need a little bit more work.

EDIT:

Mock Up. Redrew letters based on CV1. The graphics have already been inserted, but I still need to rearrange the tiles a bit and update the tile attributes.

EDIT2:

Rearranged the tiles, but accidentally over wrote the new palette data.

Thanks! I got all the palettes changed. 2 things left to do. First, tracking down the tile data for the lightning strike animation. It seems to be using the old tile data, so it must exist elsewhere on the ROM. Second, tracking down the palette attributes for the tiles which has proven to be a huge pain in the ass thus far.

Vanya, a personal thank you for not going with something Engrishy like "Demon Castle Legend Dracula". :)

You're quite welcome. That sort of thing never sits well with me. I'm a stickler for accurate translations, but sometimes it ends up sounding like crap that way. ;)

3 titlescreens. One for a translation patch that didn't do the title, one for a patch that did a title badly, and one for a game for the reason of removing the need for its American counterpart's character. I'm providing patches here because the first two are addendum patches (to be used over the translation-patched roms, since the translations change some graphics themselves)and I really can't be bothered going through the process of trying to contact the translation authors for permissions, so if I don't put them here they'd probably never make it to the site. And the third is just.. pointless really, so yeah. Of course if i'm misunderstanding something and I could put them on the site anyway, please tell me...  :-[

I'm also trying to do similar for Famicom Wars, but the motivation to continue and finish it comes and goes due to the complexity of the thing.

I think snark (who did the Moon Princess Legend translation) still visits here occasionally, but RPGe (who did the Getsufuuma Den translation) is LONG dead.
Still I guess making a title translation patch is probably okay.

I quite wish people posted the patches for all these title edits, most of them are quite excellent! Please share!   ;)

I'll do just that as son as I figure out how to change the palette mapping in AjDen. If anyone can give me a hand with that please feel free to pm me as it would be greatly appreciated and would speed up the release of the patch.

Well, my stance is that Engrishy translations are not accurate -- or at least not good. And yes, they do sound like crap. ;)

Another one. When I added the ones I did before into my long list of roms I noticed this game which had never gotten a title screen, and decided to try to make something (while sticking to the US naming convention which was used for the third game int he series). Had to make some masterful dodges in the tiles since I can't really do anything other than tile edit, so I hope it looks okay. Again, the patch is one to be used over the translation patch already on the site. I probably will try uploading this one (when i'm sure it's done) and the Fuma one to the site later.

I should also say that even if im putting patches in my posts, i'm still putting these up here in hopes of feedback.. if making changes will make them look better i'm all for doing so as suggested.
