In what is certainly their most retarded move since Giftpia, Nintendo of America said to themselves “Nah, the English-speaking world is not interested in cool games like Earthbound. Here, check out Mario Pinball Land! Wowee!” So now the translation burden rests on the fans. It is a sad state of affairs. And yes I’m still pissed about Giftpia damn it.
So yeah, this is the first two Mother games. Mother 2 was released here as Earthbound on SNES. The first game is available in English as an NES prototype, which you can find if you feel like looking for it.

Description
The first game is mostly done, using the script from the NES prototype. The second game only has basic menus done, just to show that it can be done.
Basically this is just a teaser patch, to get translators to help out, since RPGONE wants the game to be completely retranslated. So that is nice.

This hack focuses mainly on Mother 1, so I’ll focus on that too. The translation is fine and does its job, although in the final boss battle and the ending “cutscene” are left untranslated.
The game itself is really good and I never encountered any harsh Mt. Itoi insta-kill monsters that would frustrate me to no end. No, this version of the game was perfectly fine… Or maybe I level grinded like mad (which I did at first).
Movement is also smoother in this version, with it being pixel by pixel as opposed to the NES’s tile-by-tile. Therefore, diagonal movement is much better and less restrictive. You can also run (pressing R) without everyone suddenly speeding up along with you.
The Mother 2 side of this patch is just as it says in the description above. It’s wholly untranslated except for the menu (which is kinda ugly). Aside from that, the game is pretty much the same old Earthbound you may remember from the SNES days.
