Final Fantasy IV - Ultima version 6.0 is out!!

This is a huge update with many new additions such as new enemies, new bosses, new items and gears, new map locations, new scenarios and events, and much much more. But the biggest of the update is the newly implemented Custom Enemy Graphics! This was something that was always intended to be added to the hack since the beginning but was never able to be done until recently, with the help of the amazing hacker chillyfeez! It was a tireless work for the past couple of months creating, coding and implementing these new custom enemy graphics, and this news article is to showcase the results to everyone! :) Huge, huge thanks to chillyfeez for the help in this because this would not have been possible without his help! Much appreciation and credit to chillyfeez!! :)

Hope you’ll all check it out and enjoy this hack immensely!

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima (FINAL VERSION v5.12f)

22 October 2019 8:30PM EST - Update by 8.bit.fan

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima version 5.12f is finally out! It has been quite a journey creating and updating this hack, however, it has finally arrived at the end in its final form.

Originally, about a year ago, this project began as an addendum to the vanilla game: FF2SNES. The idea was to make a few polish here and there, and reuse some of the empty space and dummied out contents in the rom to create some meaningful and new weapons/spells/gears to spice up the core FF4 experience. However, as time went by, with the combination of new ideas that kept popping up and suggestions from many players of this hack, more and more goodies was added to the hack to a point where Final Fantasy IV - Ultima had become its own personality. In its final form, not only has the hack been treated with new goodies and a few extra endgame additions as it did back in v1.0, but it is now loaded with a ton of extra content such as new side-quests, new scenarios, new weapons and much much more throughout the entire game from start to finish…plus a fairly good sized endgame adventure in addition as well. Here are a few notable features of this hack:

  • 32 New Weapons! 21 New Spells! 20 New Bosses!!
  • Fully Detailed Equipment Screen!
  • New Attack Animation that scales to your Power!
  • Dual-Wielding Dark Knight Cecil!
  • New Side-Quests! New Events! New Endgame Scenarios!!

Barring any bug fixes or polish updates, this should be the FINAL VERSION of Final Fantasy IV - Ultima. So if you haven’t already, do give it a download and check it out! Hope you’ll all enjoy this hack immensely and feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or comments! Cheers!! :)

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima

11 September 2018 1:06AM EST - Update by 8.bit.fan

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

A ‘deluxe’ version of Final Fantasy II for the SNES. A beloved classic that was nerfed quite a bit when it was released back in 1991 in the US. Using editors such as ff4kster, it was quickly revealed that LOTS of content was dummied out and there were empty space for extra content.

This hack creates a ‘deluxe’ version of the game by using most of the available space to add a bunch of extra content such as:

  • 22 NEW WEAPONS
  • 11 NEW SPELLS
  • 8 NEW BOSSES, etc.

The story and the feel of the original game are kept more or less the same. Project II was used as a base for this.

Hope everyone enjoys the hack! :)

Little Nemo - The Dream Master - A Wonderful Wand Edition

15 October 2017 10:03PM EST - Update by 8.bit.fan

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

This hack attempts to increase the usage of the WAND and to improve the overall gameplay of the beloved cult classic Little Nemo - The Dream Master. This is accomplished by giving the player the WAND weapon from the start, streamlining the action-platforming aspects of the gameplay, and reducing the cumbersome animal-riding parts of the game. Various re-balancing adjustments and improvements have been made to the game as well.

I’ve always felt that the WAND weapon was introduced very late into the game and even then, the amount of opportunities you are given to use the WAND was very little also. In stage 8, when you are finally given the WAND, you are under the impression that you’ll be using the WAND weapon quite a bit for the enemies. Instead, the game continues to throw obstacles at you in which you are required to continue using animals to overcome, further reducing the usage of the WAND to just merely at the bosses. This hack addresses the issue and attempts to fix this by giving the player access to the WAND from the beginning, and also reworked the levels to utilize it much more than before.

Besides the addition of the early WAND activation, this hack also attempts to streamline the levels to give the player a better overall experience. In the original game, many levels had overly tedious keys fetching quests. This hack eliminates that and reworks the levels with several interesting twists. Other confusing aspects of the game has also been eliminated/changed such as confusing layouts and strange platform/item placements. Several levels has also been streamlined to play more like an action platformer without the key fetching quests and/or the overdone animal-riding. I’ve also expanded MANY empty/unused areas of the game to give each level a more ‘full’ experience.

Each level’s difficulty has now been adjusted and is now incremented fairly. I’ve made the levels more about challenge of platforming/WAND-attacking skills instead of cheap hits and/or deaths. I’ve added many bonuses/secrets in the game that will require advanced skills for this game to reach, and challenges will be pushed to the maximum in Nightmare Land.

Hope you all give this a try and enjoy this hack!

Mega Man Wily's Conquest 2 - Hyper Edition Turbo!

25 May 2017 4:27AM EST - Update by 8-bit fan / 8.bit.fan

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

This is a complete hack for Mega Man II from a previously unfinished version by DragonEye Studios. The abandoned version had some great ideas and lots of potential, but was littered with bugs, poor layouts, and enemy spams. So the purpose of this project was to refine the problematic areas and complete the hack so that the player can play all the way to the end and finish the game.

Mega Man II has always been my favorite of the series, and seeing so many great hacks with amazing potential go unfinished is disheartening. Now that I’ve learned how to hack, it is my goal to try and complete the many abandoned hacks so that every Mega Man II fan out there can finally enjoy them…starting with Mega Man Wily’s Conquest 2 - Hyper Edition Turbo!

Comments and suggestions are welcomed! :)
