Warsaw City v4.5

25 July 2008 9:25AM EST - Update by Berion

ROM Hacks News

Two months ago, I released a patch to a very popular game - Battle City. The hack consisted of four parts, named after the seasons of the year. This hack relates to the Polish history of The Second World War (changed icon of the eagle) and our national patriotism.

A few days ago with Dr00id88, we finished our project of creating a multicart version of Warsaw City. For some of you it’s only an added loader, but in fact it’s a couple of pure assembly code hacks, screwed together to give you that beautiful effect. :)

Final Fantasy II *is* Easy Type

06 July 2008 3:42PM EST - Update by Dragonsbrethren

ROM Hacks News

This is a simple hack that ports all of Final Fantasy IV Easy Type’s data changes into Final Fantasy II US. An extended description, from the readme:

I’m fairly certain anyone with even a mild interest in Final Fantasy IV knows that the Easy Type version, which was released in Japan at about the same time the US got its Final Fantasy II, has many interesting changes that aren’t present in any other version of the game. Nonetheless if you spend enough time on forums you will inevitably find people who use “Easy Type” and “Final Fantasy II” interchangeably, as if they were identical to one another, despite all the evidence to the contrary available via a quick search online.

However, this erroneous claim is what inspired me to make this hack. Every byte of data that was changed for Easy Type has been ported to the 1.1 revision of Final Fantasy II US, text changes have only been made for the two new swords and anything else that needed text, the rest of the game is left entirely intact. This is as close to what we would have gotten in 1991 had Final Fantasy II US been a localized version of Easy Type. I hope you enjoy playing through this under-appreciated version of Final Fantasy IV.

Patched Super UFO Pro v8.8

12 June 2008 9:32AM EST - Update by EnderWiggin

ROM Hacks News

This is a fairly useless hack - it simply makes the copier ROM playable on an emulator.

I did it for the nostalgia - the SNES unit my brother bought had a Super UFO. Needless to say, many summer nights were spent loading up games from this copier’s menu.

What I did was basically NOP out instructions that were causing infinite loops, these were most likely disk access checks. I was also having trouble getting the sound to work until I discovered a routine that for some reason was copying the sound init code to non-existent memory (probably on-board custom RAM).

Dragoon X Omega II v1.30

19 May 2008 5:27PM EST - Update by Sliver X

ROM Hacks News

A full scale hack of Final Fantasy, nothing remains but the core programming routines. It features all new graphics, music, levels, enemies, text, statistics and more. Think of it as a “Total Conversion” for the NES.

Up to this point, there were two versions of the game: v1.26 and Easy Type. Both lines are now merged as of this version, which should be the absolute last release barring any earthshattering problems (v1.30 has been thoroughly tested, so this should not be an issue, we hope).

SRAM files from either v1.26 or Easy Type should function properly with v1.30, but save states may be broken due to the animated water routines.

Final Fantasy 2us/4j Regen Power-Up Patch

14 April 2008 1:29PM EST - Update by Phoenix Hacks

ROM Hacks News

Because it’s so weak, FuSoYa’s Regen command in FFIV is not really worth using; it only restores 10 HP per phase, for a total heal of about 100 HP. At the point in the game where he joins your party, this is pretty pathetic. This patch increases the HP recovery of the command to 255 HP per phase, for a total heal of 2000-2500 HP.
