A Complete Disassembly of The Legend of Zelda

09 February 2021 6:55AM EST - Update by CrimsonMagus

Documents News - RHDN Project Page

Version 1.0 of The Legend of Zelda disassembly has been completed! This project contains assembly language source code that can be assembled with ca65. The code has been fully labeled and commented.

This project started with an effort to remake the game in C++. The remake was completed in 2017. But the related reverse engineering effort was poorly documented. It was in October 2020 that the attempt at a complete disassembly began.

Version 1.0 is on the RHDN project page. Up-to-date source code of the disassembly and the remake can be found at the link below.

Finally Some Clarity! - Super Mario Bros. Two Player Hack Editing

31 August 2020 8:02AM EST - Update by Supergamerguy

Documents News - RHDN Project Page

After several weeks of painstaking trips wading through lines of code and forum posts trying to figure out how to edit the refactored code of the SMB1 Co-Op hack, Supergamerguy finally pieced together a general idea of how to make some changes to its code. He was able to figure a few things about palettes and how they relate to characters and enemies and particular, but the majority of his findings pertain to the Title Screen. Sadly, he was not able to get info on the top-right hand portion of the “Title Box”, but he was able to map out the locations of everything else. Supergamerguy hopes this benefits any hackers wishing to make their own changes to the game and eases the stress of everything else!

Comprehensive NBA Jam TE Romhacking Document Released!

18 October 2018 9:27PM EST - Update by eskayelle

Documents News - RHDN Project Page

Fresh off of releasing his NBA Jam TE - Double Z Mod romhack of an SNES classic basketball / beat-em-up extravaganza, eskayelle has released his Hacking NBA Jam TE: A Beginner’s Guide document.

An aggregation of everything eskayelle researched and learned while modding the game, the document purports to provide guidance on everything from modding court and uniform colors, to injecting PAR codes into players, to modding stats and graphics, and more!

While eskayelle’s goal is to generate interest in NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, and more hacks of it, he admits to two alterior motives:

  • The hope that hackers may find the document useful enough that they consider annual roster updates to the game.
  • The hope that experienced hackers may find the document interesting enough that they may want to pitch in with some guidance on sound hacking.

For those of you interested in digging into some fun, smash-mouth, 2-on-2 basketball, please pick up a copy of a document (and perhaps the Double Z Mod patch) today!
